I have seen later 806's with a boxed 10. Whether it is down to a service replacement or other I don't know but it is quite common.

Well , thats a bit of the crux here , isnt it ?, if its down to service replacement , it didnt leave the factory like that when they were originally made ?, no one questions the originality of the parts , just whether or not it left the factory this wat when they were first made

Incidentally O&W navis all have boxed 10's and they where produced from stock purchased from Breitling's demise ...

That is a loaded remark , what other companies did with the old stock after they bought it and how they mixed and matched it , doesnt really have any bearing here ? , it wasnt Breitling so we should leave O&W out of this discussion

I will take your advice and opinions as stated in your message .... worth what I paid for them ... Zilch !

Thanks for the input guys. All I know it is a stunning watch in ridiculous condition, boxes aside. Hopefully some questions from interested buyers will follow...

Ok, since my opinions don't matter , I'll give it anyway

I believe the watch is a frankenpiece , boxed '10''s were never used this late in the serial range . Tried to be nice about it and not step on toes but that doesnt seem to matter

so tread with caution and be prepared to find yourself another case , or another dial/sliderule ring combo to make this watch 100% correct

This is a sales thread, could have pm'd about any discrepancies instead of blasting the thread. I'm just saying.

could have , but I believe prospective buyers need to have all the info that the seller has as well ?
therefore I voice my opinion 'en publique'

Yes that's a great thing to do, I didn't mean to call you out or anything, just stating an opinion. Forget about it and have a good one! Happy 4th!

Gentlemen, now that the accusations are flying more publicly........

I have not moderated any of the comments here because I firmly believe they contribute to potential buyer education. Not withstanding the beliefs of the seller and his country mate (it's a different IP address, I checked), boxed 10s are very well documented among the collector community, not just here but in other places as well. The knowledge of Fred and Rene need no confirmation from me!

There is zero evidence that red boxed 10s are factory original on anything after 1967 and there is no shortage of 68 / 69 pieces to reference. Buyers should expect that this piece did not leave the factory in this condition and should proceed accordingly.

I go out to "happy hour" and the s**t hits the fan as they say here in the states!! I know very little about vintage pieces and I have learned a tremendous amount from this forum! ( and also saved a lot of money too!). For what it worth, you should be prepared to authenticate what you say, because this forum is "monitored" by very knowleable individuals. Not only do us neophytes learn, but it saves us a lot of heartache. Other websites are not really interested in "validating" what is posted, it seems as if they are just looking at the "numbers". Thank you to all those who keep us " informed" and spend the time educating us newbies!

typo or confusion; watch has the serial 1.160.xxx, early/mid 1967; I should hire somebody to proofread my posts, I apologize.

there are several other posts on fora & IG correctly dating this piece, here is an example that also describes the period:

Image

let me explain and try to clarify: we have seen many strange parts combinations, with Breitling and other brands, the "parts bin" theory says that manufacturers cared little about "period correct" and had no modern FIFO stock management, just grabbed the parts they happened to find on stock, Speedmaster parts clearly predating the Omega-confirmed production dates by years are widely documented.

but: the "boxed 10" dials have "small eye" subdials that require shorter totalizer hands, all later "big eye" panda have longer hands and the "boxed 10" are the only ones to have the corresponding sliderule, so it wasn't just one part you'd have to accidentally find on stock and just select, you'd have to match four ! different parts (dial, sliderule, two different subdial hands), while all other Navitimer 806 had moved on to "big eye" dials in 1967 with non-box sliderules and longer hands ?

we have seen several examples that went the other way around, there are some GP 806 with cases dating to 1964 that have (different, orange accent) "boxed 10" dials and sliderules, but most probably these are cases that had still been on stock in 1967, no way to verify, an assumption.

I must admit I fail to understand the relevance of the O&W argument, whatever "dead stock" parts were sold to Mr. Wajs in the late 1970s has no impact on standardized Breitling configurations of the late 1960s, so the Dracha point might be free of charge, but clearly worth more much than "zilch", what a strange comment by that new member....

trying to sum it up, this is a beautiful watch in excellent condition that I would LOVE to own - and there might be a perfectly good explanation for these inconsistencies; but isn't it clearly better to discuss these openly and mention them, than having a new owner proudly post this watch on fb, IG or fora and then be confronted with these discussions ?

Thanks Fred. Insightful knowledge as ever and helping the rest of us learn more. I wish I could explain inconsistencies in the watch, but as is often the case with watches these old there is no trail. That being said the new owner will certainly not be disappointed.
