A recent purchase. The movement is definitely a Venus 170, but I'm trying to confirm the reference #.

1. The case back is a bit marked up and tough to read but I think that it's a reference 178. Can anyone confirm/comment?

2. The serial number seems to be 700959 - but I don't see that range on this chart -->http://www.vidision.com/watchfred/ - Any pointers on dating this piece?

Thank you.

According to the table of SN per year , your SN 700959 is in a "nowatchland" between 636508-692266 for 1946 and 703562-717737 for 1947 .
Before 1950, there are such discontinuities in the SN table.
Apart that point, and based on your single pic, it looks like an authentic ref 178 .

Your Ref 178 looks like it is in great condition. Make sure it is serviced. A fellow member CRAIG is great at servicing and restoration of vintage watches. He services mine and most vintage members watches Here is a better picture of my dial.

And the answer to bracelets is NO to both. The stainless mesh does go well with the dial but is not correct but I like it.

That Land Rover badge just reminded me of a story. Mom has a friend who bought a Rover HSE fully loaded with every option available from the company. Got about 15 miles from the dealer and stopped at a traffic light. When she went to pull away, it stalled. Got out and all the engine oil was pouring on the ground. Got a wrecker and returned it to the dealer.... and got her money back!
I have a good friend who is a saleman at Land Rover in Palm Beach, Fl. Says he remembers the days when the wealthy Palm Beach residents would come in and buy 2 at a time... Because 1 would always be in the shop broken down. But they LOVED their Rovers!!

Thanks guys. I did get it serviced as soon it came in, I'm fortunate to have a good watchmaker locally.

Really love the mesh bracelet Rick. Where did you source it?
