Just remember, Breitlings will scratch just like any other watch, and being as it's an auto, your Skyland needs to avoid things like heavy impacts (so don't drop it onto concrete), bad vibrations (so take it off when you use a hammer-drill), strong magnetic fields (so don't wear it when you next work on a particle accelerator.... or (as is more likely!) don't leave it on top of your hi-fi speaker cabinets)

How bad a vibration? I wear my Navitimer whilst playing golf and at the driving range. Is that too bad an impact?

Robertus,

When do you wear your IWCs? I'm really starting to lust for one.

Steve[/quote]

The 3706 used to be my everyday wearer for years, then I shifted for Ling. Still like my Fliegerchrono, but hardly gets wrist time, just like almost all my other watches. Nowadays I mainly shift between the CC and the CSO. My 3705 was bought for 3 reasons: could be a good investment (today it seems that I was right), she is (according to my view of course) one of the most understated watches ever - if I feel like wearing sg like that, quite opposed to Lings generally, which I prefer most often), and finally, I think that a man who likes to be in black simply needs one piece of watch not contrasting all his cloths. My other black watch was a Sinn 142 St S but sold her. My other two Sinns (not mentioned in my watch portfolio) are just up for sale nowadays. So all in all the IWC-s just take part filling my safe now...

Regards: Robertus

There was thread about that and generally it's not advised to play golf with Autos because of the impact.

Do it, Steve, pull the trigger!! I can't get them out of my mind either. There's an AD around the corner from my office, and my tax return just landed.

As to the thread topic, the Orange Monster and the Pathfinder get all the beach time. My Ling gets very little action unfortunately.

Otto,

Quit taunting me!! I'm weak enough as it is.
Maybe I should take your advice, though, since we're
brothers, kind of. (I've got a Steelfish and Planet Ocean, too.)
Sad thing is, I haven't got a tax return coming.
Gotta think of something else.. But I know that lusting is not
going to leave me...God, I hate the thought of selling
one of my watches...must be another way...must think. Talk later.

Steve

Why ?
whats the point of having such a expensive watch and be afraid of water?
its water proof right ?

Maybe because it's an expensive watch. I guess it's just each to their own. For example, I don't swim with any watch other than my Steelfish, even though the Bentleys are more than capable. I just choose not too.

It's like motorbikes - I know a couple of guys who only ever ride in the dry, even though their bikes are perfectly water-proof. Each to their own.

I love my watch, but if I worried about it this much I'd rather wear a rip curl. Lifes too short to be paranoid, just insure the watch & enjoy every minute with it. Put it this way, if someone takes a photo of me out & about in the water, I would upset if I was wearing a crap watch. cheers

Well, there's a fine line between paranoia and just taking care of something. The way I see it this - I don't like scratches on my watches if I can help it, so take them off if I'm doing anything like DIY, or going to the beach where stones and/or sand might scratch them. Fortunately (for my watches anyway!) I spend most of my time NOT at the beach or doing DIY! 90% of my time is office, home, or just chilling - all of which activities I use my watches for, and consequently all of them get worn throughout the week. However the fact that they HAVE a WR rating means that IF they get wet it's not a problem, but I don't see the WR rating as something that means I have to use my Bentleys in the sea or else I'm somehow not using them enough.

And beside, if I do get the sudden urge to jump in the sea (which is pretty rare in ice-box England!) that's what I have a beater for - my Steelfish!

I agree - I'm not likely to jump in the sea too often - it's a long way from here, but whenever I'm on / in the lake I just feel more comfortable without several thousand dollars worth of metal on my wrist - if that makes me paranoid, then so be it.

The Valjoux 7750 is a robust movement designed to take shocks, but I don't wear my Blacksteel when I'm running a chainsaw - why risk it?

If others want ot go ahead then good luck to them, I'm sure there won't be any problems and what others do doesn't affect my peace of mind

I'm in Aussie too - but it would be a crime to wear my Bentley GT at the beach.

Sand is the natural enemy of a polished ling! I even get edgy walking near sand in windy conditions. All it takes is one rogue grain of high silica crystal content...

Breitling SS tends to be a bit on the softer side – I guess to enable the intricate machining which is typical of the brand. At any rate, it does scratch relatively easily.

Having said that, if I was out on a yacht, away from sand, then I wouldn’t be concerned to dive in the water with it. A good rinse in fresh water after would be sufficient.
