For the first two weeks i didn't wear my Skyracer in the pool or shower but then i thought, i could be dead next week. you may as well have the satisfaction of wearing your watch 24 hours a day, that's why i wanted one in the first place

Carlos,

I salute you, Sir -- not just for your service to your
country, but for your refusal to coddle your Blackbird. I think
you've proven beyond doubt that these watches are built
to take it. :) That's one of the main reasons I started wearing
Breitlings -- everything I heard and read about them pointed to
their ruggedness and reliability. So far I haven't been disappointed.
And judging from your letter, neither have you. Continued good
luck with your Bird -- and have a great life. :D

Steve

Steve, thank you for your kind words. I’m glad to read that some owners aren’t afraid to use their watches during their day-to-day activities. Still, I’m a bit disheartened to hear how some members baby their Breitlings. Now fella’s I have to admit that from time to time I frequent the “dark side”. I own a Submariner and a Speedmaster Moon-phase so I spend some time on those forums as well. The members on those forums will, at the drop of a hat, tell you how someone has worn one of their models on the moon, deep in the ocean, or on any manner of adventure that test the limits of their watch. They do so with pride and rightly so. But, in my opinion Breitlings are just as capable and just as rugged. When I see a poll asking if we wear our B’s in the shower…well.

Good to see all the great feedback...........I must admit, as I stated previously, like my TAG, I do take mine swimming and in the shower, bike riding, kicking the football etc......After 8 weeks, my Breitling still looks brand new.

I think though the reason for that is that alltough I dont baby it, I simply know that I'm wearing a great watch and am conscious of it enough not to disrespect it........

Thats how I treated my TAG and it too looks still brand new after 10 years......

:P

I always wear my SA but I only shower in it about 1 a week or so. The reason for this is I keep a cleaning brush in the shower and give it a nice little cleaning every so often. I don't wear it there all the time because of the build up of soap that I have had on other (cheap) watches.

i wash mine in liquid soap every morning: just a drop of liquid soap at the bracelet and lots of water. Hardly any haard soap: and i try to avoid soap on the crystals to minimize negatively affecting the gaskets. Now i know i'm normal as i don't bath with my watch 8)

Carlos, I am also in the military. I bought my ling to wear and use. You only live once and of course I have insurance. I never have it off. Main reason it just gives someone the opportunity to steal it.

It has a few dings and scratches its what I would call character. Bit like my knackered body.

No, because it has a leather strap.

Wow, I’d of thought most of you guys would have treated your Breitlings a bit more robustly. Especially the Professional line. I wore my Blackbird (classic) everywhere while I was in the Army. I ran, swam, showered, shot, jumped out airplanes with it and it never failed me. I bought it just before a deployment to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait and wore it over an 8-year period before I retired. The only time I took it off was when I slept at home and that’s only because I knocked myself in the head with it a few times too many. I have to think if you have a screw down crown you’ll be OK. If your worried about seals and gaskets being affected by soap than I would submit the watch is not sealed properly, not waterproof and would surly fail a pressure test. Come on guys…stop babying your Breitlings…they can take it! :usa:

Agree with you Carlos7271…My Breitling knowledge is very limited, since I own one for 20+ days now. However, I wore my Rolex Sub Date in pretty harsh and extreme environmental conditions for years. Deserts, mountains, drastic temperature changes, saunas, swimming pools, occasional knocks & shocks, and regular shower exposure…Still, it is within COSC specs and works perfect…If it wouldn’t, taking into consideration it is a professional tool watch, IMO, it really wouldn’t be worth a price…I had many inexpensive watches that stood the test of time, so why wouldn’t these professional timepieces do the same or much better…

I wear my airwolf ocean kayaking, kite surfing, swimming in fresh & salt water, at water slide parks as well playing football or with my little boy in the sand pit. I've had the battery replaced once & its pressure check & gaskets were perfect. As others have said 'life's too short'. I polish the bracelet every month with cape cods. The watch looks brand new 90% of the time. Someone once told me "if you cannot afford to insure & repair a ferrari, or handle shopping centre dings then you cannot afford a ferrari". Everyone is different. My take is: have it on your home insurance, look after it but don't sacrifice lifestyle for the watch. After all YOU & your family are more important than your watch. So take your watch with you on your adventures, rinse & buff before putting it to bed. Cape cod it once every now & then(you will never notice any weight or size difference), & your watch will look amazing all the time.
