Seriously though, if the watch is logging the flight time/time 1/time 2/UTC /chrono info I need, why do I need or even want to sync it to my iPhone when the info is already there on the watch? Is there any real advantage of a “connected” watch you can use via an app? How useful is it really? As a backup for the recorded flight data, maybe… or to check the battery life… even when the watch is. already. on. my. wrist… oh yes, ok I see.

Someone please enlighten me. I understand it's a luxury “connected smart watch” (Apple Watch coming soon), but the more I think about it, the B55 actually just sounds ridiculous.

I think i'm just turning into an old, grumpy mechanical watch lover  (like Roff  )

I can see the phone being an electronic log book (and backup), down load your flight data (times) after certain amount of flights, say weekly if you fly a lot. A B50 with an added feature at this time, may have more in the future (?).

As a designer friend of mine pointed.... It has a blue Wi-Fi icon to denote Bluetooth, but Bluetooth has its own icon. That's a design goof right there. No thanks Breitling.

Interesting reading the comments on ABTW. It copped an absolute belting for the wifi logo. Apart from that, lots of people liked the general idea and there was no mention of the bugs with the B50.

In that same article, someone has done a very good rendering of how the watch should have looked. More subtle in a Code Blue kind of way.

One can only summise that someone at Breitling HQ agreed that a massive wifi symbol would be eye catching enough to create interest from curious people , and so defining the brand as the first Swiss luxury watchmaker to have such a watch. Not quite the same impact as a locator beacon, but still an achievement nonetheless.

There might have been an agreement on the logo size with the copyright holder, or perhaps as is suggested, someone thought that might be the appropriate size.

I'll take that back. I think that must be their take on how big it needs to be.

I have to say, I get Breitling doing a watch like this to keep up with the times, but this is something I have no interest in. Phone and watch for me are separate entities and it has always been that way and always will be that way. Perhaps there will be a market with the younger crowd.

I'm still not totally convinced Breitling fixed the B50 anyway, so I shall remain well clear.

Controlled via the app, no need to use the crown. Problem fixed ;-)

Oh yes! It makes perfect sense now! When the crown falls off you can just whip out your iPhone and control the B55 from there!

Seriously though, if the watch is logging the flight time/time 1/time 2/UTC /chrono info I need, why do I need or even want to sync it to my iPhone when the info is already there on the watch? Another example; you're traveling and you need to set the alarm on your watch.... Why the fe*k do you need an app on your phone to change the settings of the alarms when the watch IS RIGHT THERE ON YOUR WRIST?! Have I missed something?! Is the B55 just the most expensive iPhone accessory in history?

Someone please enlighten me. I understand it's a luxury “connected smart watch” (Apple Watch coming soon), but the more I think about it, the B55 actually just sounds ridiculous.

I got Breitling's E-mail about this over the weekend, which brought me back here after some absence. Thought it was funny being announced same time as Apple Watch. But this really doesn't pretend to be an Apple Watch or have any of the same purposes. (FWIW, I'm not going to be considering adding an Apple Watch for at least a couple version updates)

Upon first look, I really like this watch and the concept behind it. Primarily, as a pilot, I'm thinking if I can automate and synchronize everything with my watch, and auto-populate a flight logbook when I fly, this things would be awesome.

My first thought when seeing the picture was "hey, that looks really cool in the professional line, like my Airwolf, a B1, or Aerospace". But my 2nd thought was "ugh... is that blue wi-fi logo really on the watch face? I wonder if it could be removed or at least painted black".

I haven't been around to hear about problems with the B50, so I can't contribute to that...

If I hadn't bought my Airwolf several years ago and were in the market for a professional flying watch, this'd be a major contender.

Hey wildblue. You're one of the first to recognise an actual real world use for the B55, as a pilot. Others might and perhaps with expanded app development even more users will. Specific tools for specific professional tasks is my best description of this watch, like the Emergency. Cost will be the crunch for take up and perhaps in your case is it worth the price for streamlined flight data logging.

Yeah, I think we sometimes forget that Breitlings were designed as aviator watches. How many of us actually use them as such? Of course, even me as a pilot, I'm never flying with my Chrono Evo.

Is the B55 really $10k? That would put it out of the range of most pilots that would be interested in it.

It is yet another watch with functions of which I have no need. Cool idea if I actually was flying and logging flights. Not need to own one for the sake of novelty.
