I just wish someone would make a nice mechanical chrono that was comfortable for running.

Not a traditional chrono, but what about the Aerospace?

Considered it, and on an adjustable rubber strap or Nato it would be comfy, but having checked them out in person, they still just feel like a quartz ani-digi, and are not as intuitive as my casio to use (or a mechanical chrono for that matter) they don't speak to my soul like a mechanical watch does. As such, I can't bring myself to spend the money over my squadron issued (read: "free") Casio pathfinder.

I felt that way until I borrowed a friend's for a few weeks. Super lightweight, easy to read, not ticking second hand, and amazingly accurate - 10 sec / year! Once you get use to the digital menu, it's super easy too use. It's become my outdoors watch of choice.

From a pure practicality standpoint, my radio controlled pathfinder, with its altimeter, barometer, compass etc... Has more useful outdoors features and is effectively more accurate and will always be my go-to outdoors (camping/hiking/etc...) watch until something surpasses it. That said, for running, all I need is time and chrono, so if ever find a mechanical chrono that I like the look of, and is light enough for running, I will likely buy it since it can double for running and as a part of my regular work rotation. For work I prefer (functionally) an analog chrono for all my timing needs (i like to make marks with wet erase on the crystal at different points to time different things in flight, and the second hand is more intuitive to me than digital) so the aerospace would basically just be an outdoors watch, and honestly, for that my casio is better. if they ever make a titanium version of the B50 (second hand on that will sync with the chrino), and work the kinks out, I would certainly consider it.

I tried a pathfinder but it felt cold to me, like it had no soul, so I sold it within a month. I agree it is more functional than the Aerospace, but I felt it lacked in styling and readability. Just couldn't bond with it. There's something for everyone out there which is a cool thing about this hobby.

Absolutely, my pathfinder was free, i pretty much only wear it for working out and outdoors. It was issued to be a survival tool, which is basically what I use it for. The only other watches out there that meet the needs it was issued for are the Tissot T-touch expert (3x the price) and various suunto models. While it doesn't speak to my soul the way my TOC Unitime does, it is an awesome tool that meets a real need for an unbeatable ($0) value. When I deploy it accompanies me on every combat mission, even if I wear a mechanical, the pathfinder gets strapped to my gear as a backup to my other survival gear. That said, it is just a tool to me, i swapped to the NATO for merely ergonomic reasons. Whereas a mechanical is a work of functional art.

If you need a pair of pliers, a knife will not do, even a extremely nice, uber high end, beautiful, damascus steel knife...
