I had a problem develop with my new Cockpit, over the few days I have had it it was gaining over a minute and 40 seconds in a twelve hour period!
I took it to my AD(time and Gold) today and the watchmaker new instantly what had happened, turns out this is a regular thing for him to fix!

My watch had become heavily magnetized he informed me, he checked it on his machine and sure enough that was the case, he demagnetized it for me and hopefully all is well now.

I was trying to figure out how it happened as I have no powerful magnets at home that I know of!

He asked me if I use self-serve checkouts and I do and I did the day after getting the watch, apparently these things are chock full of powerful magnets! the action of sweeping the item along the reader is enough to magnetically charge the watch!

He advised if at all possible not to use them but If I have to then to use my non watch hand and keep my watch at least two feet away from the machine!

Outstanding service from Time and Gold, it is wonderful to have an authorized Breitling watch maker on sight!

Good info there ianmedium and something to be aware of.

I tend not to use self serve checkouts 'cos they're more trouble than they're worth but will be even more wary in future.

Wow, I guess I've been lucky. I try not to use them as they always seem to insist on calling an attendant whenever I get near, but this is an even better reason to stay clear.

Thanks everyone for passing this info on to others! The worst places are libraries as their scanners are even more powerful. I went to the one where mine was magnetized today and spoke to the head librarian and she said she would have notes attatched to the machines warning of this problem!
I love these forums, I learn so much from them! Thanks for all your great advice as well!

Good info, but I never use self-service machines - I'm too much of a snob! Serve myself??? That's what shop assistants are for!

Excellent!

I watch the re runs on Paramount almost every day - despite seeing all 251 episodes multiple times. I have my wife answer trivia questions to allow her the privilage of watching it with me - like "....who played BJ?" & "...whats was Col Potters' horse called?" She's a fan now too!

Have you seen the UK based fan site:

Wow, I thought I was the only one like that! Do you have the large book that gives episode descriptions and interviews of cast members, it came out just after the show finished. I have it, it is wonderful. I also have the complete series on DVD!. Mike gave some fascinating insights into the show and just as most of us fans thought they are all really good friends in real life as well. He said the show changed his life! If you have not read it I would recommend his book, just call me Mike, and excellent read!.
Thanks for the link, I had not seen it before!
