Hi,

I need some help purchasing this navitimer 806 from 1971.

Since there are a lot of experts on this forum, i thought i would share the pictures of the watch here.

Can anyone tell me if this is an all original breitling and if this would be a good purchase?

The dial is not in great condition - the lume - the puffy stuff on the indicies and the "12" has been exposed to moisture and is very dark. Other than that I think its correct. Price isn't great but not terrible either.

thanks for your reply.

i'm getting better pictures of the dial tomorrow.

i see a lot of pictures of navitimer 806's with dark lume. isn't it just the fading of the lume or dark patina, instead of moisture?

what do you think does not look good about the dial, besides the dark lume?

It's just the lume/batons/12 that looks bad. The end if the sweep is black too for some reason but that's not a difficult fix. Apprently moisture exposure causes the lume to go black over time. Personally If I was buying one for myself I'd search for a better lume such as this

The tip of the chrono seconds hand appears lumed(?!) and, again, very dark which is odd...or is it just the photo? Perhaps a replacement slide rule too? Price about average ebay for condition, in UK at least.

thanks for your replies.

the second hand appears to have a dark tip, i did not notice that. Thanks for pointing that out.

I will have daylight pictures tomorrow. I will post them here.

That's one beautiful example buddman.

Yes thanks. I didn't mean to imply to buy one like this (hopefully you can't for $2500 :-) ) but I'd aim for a faded beige/khaki if you can. I think the black just makes the watch look too old and tired. 806s aren't rare, so a bit of patience will pay off.

:)

I'm not in a hurry or on a $2500 budget, so i can wait around for a better example. And the one you posted looks way fresher yes.

Is that one yours?
