Not sure how the chronograph functions on this model, but the operation you describe is correct for most conventional Breitling chronographs - the bottom pusher just resets the chrono back to zero and only does this when the chrono is stopped, the button does not work when the chrono is running. (There are some special models with a 'flyback' chronograph that allow reset back to zero when the chromo is running)

According to Breitlingsource model details, the watch has a screw down crown and a bi-directional bezel.
