Hi Folks,

I'm a Pilot and have been longing for a Breitling for a long time now. Since I finally am stable financially i noticed Brian Shaine selling a Valjoux 72 on ebay, the item ID is 231404882038.

I've been reading on the site for a few months now and just finally joined today to post this message. I thank you to the wealth of knowledge the community here offers.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the condition, quality, or authenticy of this 72 Brian has for sale? I know that these are rare and am curious as to everyone's thoughts.

I know this is a very open newby question and I look forward to everyone's thoughts or comments.

Link is easier

http://www.ebay.de/itm/231404882038

I seem to remember this watch having been discussed before ? Kurt owned it briefly , it didnt hold up to his standards and it showed up on Ebay through Bill ? ( or was that another watch ?)

Anyway
Its real but has polished hands , the corrosion is gone, and theyre rare
Heavy bidding on it and not done yet and it will probably reach 7.5K and i am not sure that you will be able to find a cheaper one unless you spend 100's of hours hunting one down

small issue: hands are badly relumed, but that can quite easily be improved.

bigger issue is the fact that the dial is mediocre at best - and there's no way to improve this.

If you are specifically looking for a Valjoux R72, you'll have to be very patient to find a better one at an affordable price, but very, very nice V178 early Navitimers can be found around or well below the price this one currently stands at ?

Looks to me like this one may have had the slide rule touch up treatment that we have seen on Shaines pieces before. Note how some of the Thicker slide rule markers are rounded and not crisp and "square"? Hard to tell without clearer photos. But look under 14,16, and 20-23

Excellent points everyone, thank you.

I learn so much from the trained eye you guys offer. I think i prefer to look for one with less issues and a cleaner dial. I think I should review the v178s. Thank you everyone for the insight.

I have never owned that watch, or ever had anything at all to do with it.
