Why would this ref 2003 have 2 serial #'s. One on the case back and one on the inside case back?

I'll answer here too. we have seen several pieces from the mid 1960s w/ these dual numbers, although the watches are without doubt correct (Bill hasn't visited for some time, he might doubt them).

We see serial numbers on the outside caseback on most models of the late 1960s and after, so that might be an explanation why they added the numbers on these watches on the outside - and just didn't care they were different.

For dating purposes I'd go by the later number, on all I've seen that was the number on the outside caseback - but we have no one to ask and confirm that theory.
