I own this superocean in silver, and the fact that you pick it out as a fake blows my mind because I could not tell, and I own the real deal. Bravo!

Unfortunate possible update to this......

I just received a PM from a member who believes he just received this watch from a trade on another forum with someone who acquired the watch from wms1. Will keep this updated as I learn more and will keep Admin in the loop when more information is available.

Further update.

Watch was sold on eBay prior to the listing being removed but after seller was advised that watch was fake. Buyer was a member of this and other forums. Buyer noticed a few anomalies when he received the watch and queried with the seller about originality. I obviously only have second hand information about that conversation but impression I got was that seller reassured buyer without directly stating that it was real (something that buyer only realized in hindsight).

Buyer then traded the watch on another forum fully believing the watch to be real and when the second buyer googled he found this thread and contacted me. Both buyers are members of this forum and both are clearly good guys. Trade is being undone and original buyer is after seller to get his money back - should be straightforward as it was through eBay on a listing that ended up being removed.

After further discussions with the site owner the seller is no longer a member of BreitlingSource.

Another update, and not overly positive. eBay has advised buyer that because sale was more than 30 days ago they may not be able to assist - odd given that they removed it as fake! Some other developments that I don't wish to comment on, but for the sake of completeness I am documenting the issues once again.

Firstly, anyone reading this looking for indications of fake vs. real would be well advised to read this article - http://thewatch.watchfinder.co.uk/the-i ... bout-fakes and should also refer to this thread here - viewtopic.php?f=9&t=53024. It is worth noting that despite the thousands of fakes that have been removed from this site over the years, only this model has a sticky for it - the fake is that good, but also has clear flaws for those willing to see them.

For this particular example the serial number starts 1342 which is common to the fake - Breitling will be able to confirm whether the serial number for this watch (1342775)belongs to an SO42 or not and I encourage anyone reading this looking for evidence to make that enquiry.

I also recommend study of the lume dots which should be virtually square - the photo in this thread from the listing clearly shows that the 8 in particular is a circular dot and close inspection with the watch in hand will show that all are similar as well as being unrefined.

Harder to see on these photos, but easy to see with the watch in hand is the font of Breitling - check in particular the I and compare with the original watch. Almost impossible to see on the photo, but again easy to see with the watch in hand is the difference in the edges of the numerals on bezel and dial. The real watch has much squarer / tighter corners compared with the more rounded versions on the fake.

All of this has been documented before and is available for anyone who wishes to find it, but for convenience it is added in one post.

I am locking this thread now.
