I recently received my first Brand New Breitling ordered from my AD. You won't believe how long I researched this watch. I bought +-10 fake watches (this forum will probably kill me for this) over a period of 5 years. Tag, Omega, Breitling, Chopard and U-Boat. I then wore these watches and the one that got the most Wrist Time was the Breitling Chronospace. The other watches were too thick or the face was to small (or too Big) or something wasn't perfect. I know the fakes aren't perfect replicas but they are close. Finally owning the Real One is soooo awesome. Mainly because the engineering and detail is 1000% better. The timekeeping it 1000% better. It's Waterproof and many many more. I am proud of wearing the original vs I was embarrassed to wear the fakes. When people asked me about the fakes I would say under my breath (It's a fake) The original is so good I would love to hand it down to my Son. Nothing beats the real thing !!! Well done mate, congrats on a great watch! Looks mean :-)
Hope it brings you many years of enjoyment.
Just goes to show that sometimes fakes can help to promote the real thing!

Cheers!

Hey Emile,

I certainly won't beat you up on wondering the path through fake to real. I did it. I had a fake Rolex, then a fake TAG. I simply could not afford real. Well not the ones I coveted, so, I had an ok citizen. Someone stole that...then someone stole the fake Rolex.

I finally got a real TAG Chrono. Saved saved saved and on my 40th bought my B1.

I think the journey through fakes is not an unusual one, but on reflection probably a poor decision as it makes the fake market viable business for those who produce them.

But perhaps, if there were no fakes, then maybe the desire and aspirations to get the real thing might be diluted by it seeming so far away to have an original. I never pretended mine were other than imposters!!!

For me, the day I walked from the store with my new B1 was one of the most memorable days of my life. I thought everyone was looking at me, and that little bag in my hand. This bag contained so much more than a watch, it contained my hard work, and my wife's understanding. Of course nobody was looking...but.

I admire your post, and also understand your journey to get your wonderful watch.

Well done my friend. I look forward to seeing your next.

Davey.

I agree with Davey on this. I read somewhere many years ago that most makers expect those who buy fakes will eventually migrate to the real thing sometime in their life. They know that sooner or later you will potentially take the plunge and buy the real thing.

I had a fake IWC Big Pilot once and it was so close to the original in looks, even I had trouble telling it apart. Some are not close and only get the association by name. Would love to own the real thing and maybe one day, If I can get the Breitling obsession under control!

Congratulations Emile. Enjoy your watch.

That's very nice... I had a fake tag years ago, always wanted a genuine one but could never afford or justify the cost of one... Then saved and saved and saved and well you get the picture... then a friend was wearing a Breitling he had given to him for his birthday which is when I fell in love with the brand and the Breitling Fund began... this was about 3 years ago and I bought a 2000 colt auto on a rubber strap at an Auction (not ebay) a matter of weeks ago and although I liked it I had been used to a bigger faced watch (Oakley Crankcase), so sold it within 3 days of ownership and decided I wanted to save more for a newer bigger faced one, managed to make a bit of profit on the 2000 Colt, then sold the Casio edifice I had up for sale and managed to get enough cash together and spotted a nice 2008 Colt Auto up for grabs ... and this is the watch i'm wearing right now... :)

A man. Love reading these. There is nothing like it. That feeling of owning your first Brand New Car, Brand new house or a new Breitling. Especially when you worked and waited for it. It's been +- 2 weeks now and life gets busy. Checking the time has a whole new meaning to me now. I don't check the time anymore. I admire the time !!! Sometimes I look at the reaction on someone's face around the coffee table when they notice the watch on my arm. I can see they are wondering about it and want to ask but don't. Some guys and girls look a couple of times. I then smile in my mind and feel grateful and lucky.

Breitling for me, all the way.
