Hello, i'm really just looking for some information. My lovely Dad passed away a few months ago now and i'd really like to get his broken watch repaired.
However, the thought had occurred to me that it may be counterfeit, if it is then i will not be spending good money on a repair.
He never said it was and used to tell me it was given to him by his brother.
Sorry the photos are not that good, it does say Breitling 2003 on the rear but i'm fairly sure that's not the date of manufacture.
Any information would be most helpful, thank you.

It looks like a sound Breitling Toptime and 2003 is the model , mid 60s period . To be sure of the year of manufacture we need the SN which is either inside the caseback, or under the model number .

sorry to hear about your loss - a fittingly lovely watch, authentic and correct, an early Top time ref. 2003 most probably manufactured between 1964 and 1966. These are toploader cases, so only a watchmaker could access the inside caseback that will show a serial number that would enable us to date it exactly.

edit: Phil was quicker ;)

It look all good from what you've shown. It's a TopTime and the "2003" is the model. Give it a google. A good watchmaker will service it and tidy it up for you. You could probably get some recommendations if you let us know what country you're in.

Sorry to hear about your father- it seems a common story for people to begin to appreciate vintage wristwatches when they inherit one from their Dad. Mine unfortunately had a quartz :-)

Edit - Phil and Fred were quicker.

Thank you fellas, i must admit to not expecting such quick replies. You must all know your stuff.
I'm in the U.K, Cambridge to be accurate. It would be nice to get it repaired/serviced and henceforth become something of a family heirloom.

I realise I'm ignorant of these matters but are there any instructions online for this watch? I've just given it a wind anti-clockwise and it appears to be ticking.
The stopwatch function still doesn't work so it will be sent for servicing etc anyway although i'm worried that i'd wind it too far.

winding goes booth ways, pusher at 2 starts/stops the chrono, pusher at 4 resets.
better NOT to wind it too much if you are unsure about service history, oils might have run dry & you could cause massive wear to parts.

And watches wind clock-wise, hence the name "clock-wise"

A great unsung classic vintage timepiece get it restored to working order shouldn't cost more than £200ish as it looks in good condition. A great memory of your dad.

Just got back from a trip to Mappin & Webb via getting the motorbike MOT'd.
Probably not the best idea to visit in bike gear and helmet but still £1000 minimum and a 12 month wait
That's almost as good as printing your own money.

Many European members use Craig. Better to have the best work than the closest work.
