To me, buckle as well looks like non genuine.
Hard to be sure on buckle, based on that two photos.

My first mistake was not posting this here first.

My second mistake was sending a "best offer" (it was accepted).

Once I receive it, I'll post good pictures here and await for your feedback. I'll then have to proceed with a proper response.

Thank you for your help.

Gentlemen, here are pictures of the strap.
What do you think?

Strap is aftermarket and buckle most probably real.

Thank you! What is it about the strap that makes you say that? What is wrong with this?

Because the seller stated that it wasn't a genuine Breitling strap! It is Printed Leather, meaning that the facing is not genuine Croco/Gator, it is leather that has been embossed. This is reflected in the price, although I think it was too high. Just my opinion.

Not only that, the inscriptions inside the strap are generic, nothing like what Breitling has. The notch for the buckle tang is off centre.

As for the buckle. It looks like 18mm, so I think it is real. The fakes of this buckle tend to be 20mm, due to the more popular 22/20 replica strap.

Welcome to The 'Source, by the way :)

Thank you for the welcome 1952! :lingsrock:

I see what you mean about the strap. Now it makes sense. I've never bought a strap for any of my watches (my Rolex is on it's bracelet and my SuperOcean 42 has always been on the diver strap I bought it with) so I didn't think to check.

I re-read it again and found this: Image,
He states the brand is Breitling. That, plus the fact that I didn't think to check in here ( :whiner: ) is what I'm regretting the most.
Where does he state it's not genuine?

Thank you all for your help.

Ok so he didn't literally say "non breitling strap" but what was obvious (photos aside) was the notable lack of text saying "genuine breitling strap"
Instead you get this:

THIS AUCTION IS FOR THE WINGED B LOGO BUCKLE, ALONG WITH THE FLAT / THIN BROWN ALLIGATOR PRINTED LEATHER WATCH BAND THAT HAS MATCHING COLOR STITCHING FOR YOUR BREITLING.

He hasn't mislead or scammed anyone, but the listing was worded to attract anyone looking for a strap that was suitable for a breitling.

Now onto the pics, anyone who has seen/owned/handled a genuine vintage or modern breitling croco strap would be able to distinguish straight away that the auction was not for an original breitling strap.
Not being condescending or otherwise, just saying... :)

Definitely didn't take it as condescending! Thank you for the explanation.
Not ever having seen or handled these straps, I just blindly ordered. Thankfully, my "best offer" was accepted so I'm not out as much as it could've been had I outright paid the asking price.

Thank you all for the info! I look forward to spending time in this forum!
:D

sose - 1952 has pretty much covered it all, but for future reference, Breitling don't make "alligator print" straps - they make calf leather straps, and they make genuine crocodile straps made of crocodile skin. Alligator print (or croco print) is a calf leather strap that has made a croco print embossed into it to make it look more expensive (or stylish) than it is.

For info - this is what a genuine Breitling calf leather strap looks like (see the underside) -

http://www.breitlingsource.com/strap_leather.shtml

And this is what a genuine Breitling croco strap looks like (again, see the underside, especially noting that it says "croco" : fake Breitling crocos say "Cuir" instead of "Croco")

Driver8, your post sheds even more light on the subject for me. Thank you!

I just got married and while in my honeymoon to the Caribbean, walked into an AD. I asked to see all the available straps they had and took a good, hard look at them. I understand what to look for now, after that visit and the info on this thread.

Thanks all!

Ps. One of the forum's sponsors, Strapped for Time, makes some BADASS straps. Love my bomber strap.
