Thanks guys - she contacted me and it's sold - a lovely lady buying a gift for her husband. Lucky man!

She was concerned about authenticity, so we met at the Breitling store on Bond Street in London, where she had made an appointment with their watchmaker. To say he didn't know anything about vintage Breitling is an understatement. He was able to confirm that it "was an old Breitling, from the 50s or 60s", but would need to send it away to be authenticated. :(

Oh well. I guess theres no reason for them to learn about their heritage because they aren't going to make any money out it. Shame though.

I started wondering about other brands, and would they fare any better? I suspect Rolex, Patek might manage OK. Any experience?

Send breguet some pics and a serial number of a vintage watch (type 20 for example) they will autheticate the watch and tell you where , when and to whom it was first sold

So yes, it can be done

P.s. Glad you were able to sell to a nice person :-)
