That's true too Kurt, thinking about it again, I guess I would only buy one from a verified source like yourself for the plain reason that chances of getting it wrong are too high for most mortals like myself. Oky, if it's not a DRSD then about 15-16k is the ballpark for a complete 1665 SD, was surprised when you mentioned jump in prices to DRSD rates. I remember that beautiful NOS 1955, you surely got a steal on that one:)

You can say that I got it at a steal, I'm not going to challenge that, but it's until today still the most expensive Valjoux 72 AOPA Navitimer I have ever bought, and why did I get it at 8 k ? Simply because nobody wanted to pay more.

For most people, paying top $ for a Val 72 AOPA Navitimer, is a lot of money, and if you end up buying something that is just a tiny bit wrong, then you have lost your money.

Kurt,
The seller (Barbara if I recall correctly) offered it to me for 10K usd , which was at the time more than I had laying around so I had to decline , she was also already negotiating with yourself so I had to step out

San, my reasoning for the 5 to 6 K guide price

- its based on the current pics, which are very blurry
- based on current condition what I cam see
- i do not want to falsely raise expectations of unachievable targets moneywise
- it has 806 as refernce, so in my book its not a first gen
- dial already has the newer aopa wing
Etc

Factor in unknown seller and provenance and i think my estimate is very realistic , your estimate would bring it to the highest priced V72 navitimer I ever saw

Anyway, no critique aside from b careful what expctations you set

True Rene, we need better pics to judge quality. Also true about it not strictly being a 1st generation dial pre 806 because of the engraving and the dial being a 2nd gen V72 all black. Maybe your price guide is more realistic, maybe a bit more depending on condition.

Now for that NOS one, I might have risked it to bag it, but I didn't know it was for sale:(

Probably true Rene, I don't know, but it dosen't change anything, I got it at 8 k because nobody wanted to pay more, just like this one will sell at the highest price anybody is ready to pay.

Very few people did, she made inquiries about it on an obscure forum , cant remember which
When i messaged her asking for more pics she fwd me the emails with pics that she already sent to Kurt , which was how I knew I would probably 'fish behind the net' as we say in holland :-)

It wasn't the watch we discussed in this post, the one that sold at 9.1 k was much better. . . .

I really can't see this watch sell at even close to the one that just sold at 9.1 k, I'm definitely leaning towards Rene's estimate.

The description will scare many possible buyers away.

"Crown slightly bent at 8:30 hour, 4-hour pusher bent, moderate corrosion at perimeter of dial, slide-rule corroded green, movement is dirty, dry on oil, appears to have never been serviced. There may be wear to the center wheel and/or mainspring barrel, there may be areas of wear and/or damage internally – to be determined at complete disassembly".

To me the corrosion at perimeter of the dial is very bad, it looks very non - attractive to my eyes, and nothing can be done to it, even if you replace the sliderule, then there will be no match, unless you have a aged / patinated sliderule.

The watch is definitely untouched, but IMO the years of wear & tear has pushed it past the line of aesthetical beauty.

At least we got an honest seller, as he have listed what Mark Heist have discovered.

Kurt....Thanks for the critique or should I say very redundant critique. I have already stated everything in my ebay ad that you for some reason needed to point out a again...Maybe the fact that I decided to list the watch and not allow our initial talks to turn into a sale for you...remember you saying "regardless of what anyone offers you, I will pay you more"? Maybe you have a case of the sour grapes. The facts are the facts....This is a fantastic very rare 1955 806 Navitimer and the Heists have given me an estimate to refurbish very close to original form. This is an ALL ORIGINAL and is a Jewel of a Watch. Have a good day.
