We haven't discussed the 2013 COSC figures, thought I'd keep the tradition and add the 2013 results.
2012 here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=49902&hilit=cosc+results

2013/2012/%12>13:
1. Rolex___ 804,896__798,935__+0.74%
2. Omega___447,477__526,046__-17.56%
3. Breitling___155,737__156,773__-0.67%
4. Mido____72,948__61,000__+16.38%
5. Tissot____62,830_50,000__+20.42%
6. Panerai____21,658__29,000__-33.90%
7. Chopard____ 20,520__23,000__-12.09%
8. Titoni____ 16,669__15,000__+10.01%
9. Enicar____ 15,845__16,000__+0.98%
10. UN ___ 11,213 n.a.

as we know the results only tell half the truth, as B is the only manufacturer who has all movements certified, but both Rolex and Breitling were stable, Omega and even more so Panerai figures took a massive hit, only Mido & Tissot show relevant growth.

Breitling had 102,237 mechanical movements certified (no info on ingouse & ETA split, of course), 54,500 Quartz

Good to see that Breitling has at least turned the (relative) tide around and has kept up with Rolex this year. I don't know enough about Omega to know whether they consciously decided not to certify as many movements or whether this indicates a sales hit. Absolute Breitling numbers still way down on pre 2009 numbers though, and that seems like a higher than normal percentage of quartz.

Yes that is an eye-catching figure. I thought Omega were soaring so perhaps there is such an explanation.

Is it possible that Omega and Panerai decided to reduce the number of movements certified to bring their manufacturing cost down?

Possible (likely) that they chose not to certify as many.

Reasons would be speculation but not sure that it would necessarily be pure cost, perhaps cost to perceived benefit within certain ranges.

I can honestly say the dip in omega and panerai do not shock me. Omega was super aggressive the last couple of years and panerai seems to have a very small cult following with it's "it" factor really fizzling.
