Buyer beware:

I came to an agreement on price with "mars" for the submariner. Due to no previous sales history on this forum, and that he wouldn't give me a serial number of the watch, and the fact that he would not accept paypal as a form of payment allowing me protection as a buyer, I asked him to do the following to make me feel comfortable before sending him thousands of dollars through a wire transfer. (Keep in mind I've bought and sold on here before and have references so my credibility wasn't an issue, and that I've sent pics of my DL when I sold watches to reassure the buyer):
1. I asked him to send me a pic of the watch set to a certain time of my choosing to prove he has it in his possession
2. I asked for a copy of his drivers license so that I have his name and info in the event of an issue, I have a way of knowing who I sent thousands of dollars to
3. I asked for a pic of the same drivers license next to the watch set at the time I requested to prove he has the watch and that way it will verify the drivers license to be true and not a fictitious photo from the internet

He was ok with selling the watch and taking my money up until I wanted to take steps to verify he truly has this watch, and a way to add accountability to him in the event that the watch shows up not as described or not authentic, or if it never arrived at all. He then let me know that he didn't want to sell me the watch anymore and that he would pass on the sale and that I am asking too much. Not saying he's not legitimate, but just letting you guys know to be cautious in your dealings with him...

can I suggest that this excellent and informative post is moved to the front of this topic. Its very easy to miss on page 2 and should be read by anyone interested in these watches. I was about to make an enquiry not having checked page 2, its easy to miss
John

Given recent posts I think a more substantial response than "bump" is called for.

I wouldn't mind seeing a response from the OP, I don't think anything RedLine asked for is unreasonable. As a matter of fact I think I will save that list and ask for the same, or similar, when buying a watch from a private party. I think it is great advice for a newbie, thanks for sharing that information.

You are bumping a thread for watches that you previously reported as sold and are refusing to address questions that have been raised in this thread. Given that I am also receiving PMs questioning the validity of these sales based on member experiences I have no choice but to lock this thread.

If you have watches for sale feel free to start new threads that include clear evidence that you are in possession of the watches - a photo with your username and a current newspaper would be a good start. Any sales threads that fail to demonstrate possession of the items will simply be deleted.
