My dad is a pilot for American Airlines, and bought the Aerospace on the right with a group of AA pilots when that generation of aerospace was first introduced. He had always wanted an Aerospace after first seeing one in the late 80's. When I was in high school, he taught me to fly, and I earned my private license, instrument rating, then commercial license. I always liked my dad's Aerospace, even though I knew very little about watches. In college, I got bit by the watch bug, bought and sold a lot, and ended up with the watch on the left after finding it on CL for a steal. I sent it in for a factory service, so that it looks and feels like a brand new watch. I'm going to talk my dad into doing the same for his, as the picture shows it has seen better days. I doubt that I will ever sell my own Aerospace, as I love everything about it, and it fills a spot for my future collection being unique in its own right (titanium, superquartz).

WIS culture is at its best when the watches have sentimental value

Repetition Minutes Aerospace isn't a superquartz unless the movement was updated/replaced during service? The Aerospace is one of my favorites and I've had about a dozen of them over the years.

My watch (black dial) was built later than my dads, and it has the "SQ" on the caseback, while my dad's does not. I was under the impression that the later built repetition minutes was the first to include the SQ movement.

My experience has been that the watches that have been sent back to Breitling for service and have had the superquartz movement added have the SQ on the back. I don't believe they were retailed that way. In any case, it doesn't hurt to have the upgrade for sure.

All of those pictures above are awesome. SQ or not. Yes, the shiny, new, back-from-service look is handsome to look at, but there's just something about a well-loved Aerospace that you just can't ignore. Granted, I'm not a huge fan of the recent ones as I feel they're just too much like jewelry, but they are all incredibly useful.

A few of my friends have the all-too-standard issue Suunto, which isn't surprising being in the military, and while they're excellent tool watches, I think an Aerospace says something about you that a Suunto never could. Obviously very subjective of me to say, but that's why watches are such a personal thing to me.

These seem to have a cult-like following I hadn't come to appreciate until recently after finding my own in the second hand market. It's almost like owning a Jeep in that every Aerospace owner I meet will always strike up a conversation about them.

You just can't go wrong with them, new, used, or really loved and worn.

Ah ok, I think I assumed that since it had a COSC certificate, that it was also a superquartz movement from the factory. That's alright though, considering my watch does currently have the SQ movement.
