That didn't last very long - NOW SOLD (off forum)

Thanks to BS for hosting.

Gentlemen,

A couple of recent incomings (a Speedy Triple Date and another Hercules..) means that a space or two must be made in the watch box. I've somehow managed to acquire two of these, so for your consideration is a lovely Breitling SuperOcean Steelfish X-Plus, the 44mm A17390.

Specs and other useful info can be found here: http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_de ... an_20.html

This automatic model, which incorporates the Breitling 17 Movement (modified ETA 2824-2) dates from April 2006, and is the larger 44mm case (in 2006 Breitling adopted the 'X-Plus' suffix to differentiate the new model from the earlier 42mm version, the A17360. In 2007, the name reverted back to simply 'Steelfish' ).

This is the ultimate Tool watch, Chronometer Certified of course, and rated at an official depth rating of 2000m (6600 feet, or roughly a mile and a quarter!)

It's a full set, double-boxed (outer Yellow/Silver Box, and a minty, unbroken black Bakelite box), stamped and dated Warranty booklet (April 2006), the User Manual, the Authorized Distributor booklet, and the document wallet. Note that the original COSC certificate is absent (there is a COSC certificate if you want it, but it's not for this watch - apparently the watch was issued with an incorrect COSC at original purchase, and the buyer never noticed...).

It's in terrific condition, both mechanically and cosmetically. I got this about 4 months ago, and had it inspected and regulated by Steve at Ryte Time in April. It's running beautifully (run over the last 24 hours, +1 to +1.5 seconds, so well within COSC specs!).

CONDITION REPORT:

Crystal: The slightly domed Sapphire Crystal is in immaculate condition, as is the anti-reflective coating.

Dial: Silver/White Dial, with 'Guilloche' concentric circles, which accentuates the metallic finish. Large applied steel Arabic numbers at 12, 6 and 9. Applied steel circle markers, lume filled, for other numbers. Steel-framed Quickset Date window at 3 (clicks over bang on midnight). Applied Breitling Wings Logo in steel. Minute Marker Track to outer of dial, 24 hour clock indicators to inner. Perfect condition, and lume is outrageous.

Hands: Hour and Minute hands are slim steel 'swords', segmented, tapering outwards slightly, with a luminous fill. The central Seconds is steel, needle style with a lumed square and a red tip. All in mint condition. Again, the lume is terrific.

Case: The case is a classic diver-style, with a satin-brushed finish to the steel on the top surfaces, and a mirror-polish finish to the sides and underside. Overall condition is excellent, one or two light swirls or hairline marks, no dinks or gouges, no nicks. Even on the mirror-polished sides, which tend to attract micro-scratches like you wouldn't believe, condition looks excellent, minor hairlines only.

Caseback: The caseback is a 15-sided screwback type, in polished steel to the outer part, brushed to the central section. Markings are clear, including Model and Serial numbers, with some very light hairline scratches, but barely visible, and certainly nothing nasty - see photos. Not recently pressure tested - you'll need to to this if serious immersion in water is likely.

Bezel: There is a uni-directional steel bezel, in a satin-brushed finish, with a high-polish finish thin 'chimney' band to the inner above the crystal, and another band of highly polished steel to the outer, with stud details, and an engraved fancy 'B' between 55 and 0. The bezel, which rotates smoothly in 120 crisp 'clicks', is engraved with relevant increments (numbered 0-55 with minute markers). Raised 'riders', highly polished, at the quarters, including lumed 'pip' at 12. Some very light micro scratches to the polished steel sections, and a tiny nick on the brushed bezel surface at '57' - it's really nothing much, I'm being hyper-critical.

Crown: Original large Screw-Down ridged-edge steel crown, clear 'B' signed. Excellent, and works perfectly.

Movement/Running: I had my watchmaker inspect and regulate this in April. The Breitling-signed 17 Calibre movement (modified ETA 2824.2 base) is in excellent order, and running well, with a strong reserve (rated at 42 hours). Timekeeping is pretty much spot on. I've timed this over the last 24 hours, it gained a second.

Strap: The watch is mounted on an OEM Breitling 22-20 435X Black Hide strap, with Ivory contrast stitching, and fixed and floating keepers. Lightly used, the strap is in very nice condition - there's some curvature as you would expect, and there are some signs of use at the shortest hole, and some very minor creasing, mainly showing on the underside, There is slight creasing to the area around the holes on the upper visible side, but it's fairly negligible. The Breitling pin buckle is the correct-for-period original engraved logo style, and is in a high-polish finish. I've given it a polish, it's come up beautifully - there may be the odd hairline, nothing nasty.

Measurements: Width (without Crown): 44mm. Thickness: 16.1mm. Lug-to-lug: 52mm. Lug Width 22mm. Weight 143 grams

Other: I think I've covered everything - it's a big 'tool' watch, it's double-boxed with papers, it's in terrific condition. The OEM Breitling Black strap with Ivory stitching is a lovely match to the dual finish steel/silver dial head. It's a heavy beast (145 grams even on the leather), and has a terrific wrist presence. And if you ever find yourself wondering what time it is while diving at over a mile underwater, this is the very watch for you!

Do have a good look at the photos - they will enable you to evaluate the cosmetic condition far better than my waffle...

The Steelfish was discontinued by Breitling in 2012, as they pushed the SO Abyss range launched in 2011. Which is a pity, as the Steelfish is such a nice watch. However, it does mean there's quite a demand for a good 'fish! On the forums, I've seen them go for £1500 or so, and the prices being asked on the 'bay are even higher (one in comparable condition just went for £1595). Even a tatty non-box/paper version just sold for over £1200).

I'll put this up at an extremely reasonable £1259 - that's a bit of a steal, even considering the watch is on the Breitling leather and not the bracelet. The price includes Next Day RMSD for UK members. Overseas will need to contact me for exact Shipping costs based on destination, but I'll use a Tracked & Insured Delivery Service, so you're looking at an extra £20-£30 I'd guess (it's a heavy package).

I've loads of Feedback on here, I'm a 'Top Rated' e-bay seller (2900+ deals, 100%, username 'goonermike'), and I've got plenty of Feedback on TZ-UK (username 'BigBird'), so there are no worries there.

I'd prefer BT. PayPal if absolutely necessary, or for overseas, but I cannot accept PayPal Gifts (my account just won't accept them, and I get charged even on gifts). So if you want to use PayPal, it'll be via the 'official' route, and you'll need to add 3.4% to cover Fees.

If I've missed anything, you'd like more info or pics, please feel free to PM me.

Cheers!

Mike
