Hi Stuart,

I would insist on it going to Breitling for repair, tell them that it needs a new case and only Breitling can supply/fix this correctly.
Do not take no for an answer!

Best of luck.

To be honest, it doesn't sit well with me that an unauthorised repair guy is going to be poking around my watch... but I don't really have a choice.

Not sure where you are but in the UK you would have the choice - I remember reading [in regard to vehicle repairs] the law was changed / clarified to make that illegal. If there's a danger that Breitling would refuse subsequently to work on a watch that had been mucked about with by an unauthorised repairer then the insurer must be behaving improperly. I would try to stand my ground.

Check your insurance policy for the language concerning repairs. I can almost guarantee you that there will be no language indicating repairs have to be made at "their repair shop". It is a contract that you have made with the insurance company and therefore you should be able to have it serviced where you choose with the caveat that the repairs are reasonable and related to the damage from your fall. The claims adjuster is trained to handle these claims in that fashion. Most people will cave and it saves the company a lot of cash. Good luck.

Another update guys, insurance company agreed to go through BREITLING with no real issue (which was a relief that I didn't have to argue...).
They quoted-

• Full service, including exchange of hands
• Exchange of the middle case
• Exchange of clasp

They said it will take around 9 weeks to repair.

Looking forward to getting it back.
