I am visiting Miami, and this morning checked an AD at the Aventura mall.
The price offered to me for Montbrillant Datora white face, brown crocodile strap, plus black leader strap was $7055. Is that worth it? In two days I'll be in Caribbean, sailing onboard Oasis of the seas.
Is it better to check AD onboard or on the islands, instead Miami dealer?

Hell, I'll sell you mine for $3,950 on bracelet. I've got croco straps too if you'd prefer croco to bracelet.

New? That's crazy talk! Retail on these are about $7,200 on croco. So yes, they're gouging you pretty good at $7,000. That's a tiny discount. I would walk away... Then I would come to my senses and buy used for $3,950.

Well, I only buy used because I don't like throwing thousands of dollars away. But for new, I would insist on at least a 30% discount, and I would buy out-of-state to avoid sales tax.

It would be just great to get a 30% discount, but isn't it a fantastic?

30% is unrealistic for new from an AD. 20% is good and attainable depending on the AD.

The last time I bought new from a Breitling AD was 2008. The model was the Skyracer which was a fairly new model at the time. The discount was 32% from an out-of-state AD.

Perhaps things have changed in the last 6 years.

Where are you going in the Carribean ? Look for an AD there. Aruba and many of the island have them. My personal experience is that US AD's Can't touch their prices plus you do not have to pay taxes.

They have, a lot.

20% is a serious achievement from a US AD these days, though potentially doable on a Datora as they aren't running out of the door. However, the AD would have to be satisfied that they weren't being mystery shopped because BUSA would not be happy.

I can't imagine paying 80% of Breitling's current retail prices. Especially when resale is typically 50% or less, depending on the model.

I'll be on St.Thomas and St.Martin, as well as on the Oasis of the Seas, with an AD onboard.

Suggest you check chrono24. I have setup a search for this piece and I am looking at a black contrast dial with black calf, brand new, and that's much lesser than what you quote here. I would buy brand new with the cheapest strap option, and upgrade later.
