Hi,

Would like to ask if this 809 on ebay is alright to bid on?

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/191171389348 ... 1423.l2649

I have questions on the stain on the movement, anyone knows what that is and if it can be removed during servicing?

Rrgards,
Adrian

Well.... To be brief it is a 1966 watch with the wrong dial, broken sweep hand, well worn bezel, filed bridge, slide rule is toast.... Will take more money to make right than it will to buy. I would leave for the snipers.

Dial lume is aged but dial is probably correct for 1966. I'm thinking it has the wrong crystal which distorts the slide rule to make it look worse than it really is. Only real issue I see is the broken sweep second hand. A good fixer upper I would think.

Note that the movement has been swapped and it no longer has it's original 24h modified Venus. That's disclosed in the description. The gold plating appears quite worn at the lugs, so decide if you would want that. Does look like it's had a hard life, so price it in line with that.

About average condition for a gold plated watch. They usually show wear if worn regularly. The 12 hr to 24 hr fix is a simple gear change. The only real factor is finding a replacement sweep second hand. It will still sell for a respectable amount.
