Hi guys,

Just after some advice.

I took a nasty tumble in the kitchen at the weekend (new socks + tiled floor = me flying!)

I've damaged my watch (Super Ocean - as seen in my avatar) the outer case has a nice imprint of the tiled floor embedded into it and also scratched the clasp.

I've checked with the insurance company and they've told me to get it looked at.

I'm guessing I need to get it seen to by an authorised dealer? (or do I need to see someone in particular?)

Anyone know what I'm going to be looking at (cost wise), the watch is due a service so I'm wondering if the repair would include a full service as it took such a knock.

Any advice would be appreciated,

Cheers

post a bigger pic to view.

if you have dinged the case deep then there is not much you can do about it short of Breitling changing the case. and that equals a lot of money

Impossible to guess costs. If the ding is only on the case side then you may get away with just a middle case, otherwise you are into bezel and case back as well. Even middle case will be pricey because in the Aeromarine range that includes the crown tube. The movement t may well also have been damaged by that kind of hit.

It definitely needs a quote from a Breitling service centre.

Yep, still keeping great time.

I've spoken to a place in bond street and have to get it to their watch guy to take a look.

I dropped my SA a few weeks after I bought it on some concrete. It left a nice gouge on the case outside the bezel. It looked kinda like yours but probably not as bad. I took it to my AD and they buffed it right out. If I gave you the watch and asked you to show me where the gouge was… you couldn’t tell me. I wish I had a before and after pic… but I don’t. Take it to your AD and see what they can do. You might be pleasantly surprised like I was.

IMO it is to deep to be buffed out without leaving a trace... I have a guy working for me who is a real artist on the territory and showing him the pic he said the exact same thing. Although it can be improved a lot.

Sorry, but looking at the overall scratches on the watch I would just wear the bump with dignity and pride. That watch survived a serious bump (specially the movement!). Be proud of it. It has proven, that it is a good watch.

Repairing that damage will cost quite a lot, at least around 700 US$. Have the watch checked, if it is still waterproof, and if it is, just live with it.

I agree. Just another war story for the watch and you…It gives it character.

Unless you are planning on reselling the piece, just get the service done (which you were going to have to get done eventually anyways), maybe get it buffed out as much as possible, but otherwise save the $$$ and put it towards your next Breitling!

Oh man, if it were me I would have to get it fixed. Sure it's a story but more so it's an eye sore. That's a big time gouge not just a scratch, and while it was in service I would be shopping around for a back up to wear in the meantime!

Quick update gents, have contacted the insurance company and they are insisting that I send it to their watch repair company they use to be looked at.

To be honest, it doesn't sit well with me that an unauthorised repair guy is going to be poking around my watch... but I don't really have a choice.
The insurance company have said that - "if our guy can't fix it (which I will insist he doesn't as he's not authorised) then they will quote the price they think it will cost to have it done by an authorised repair center.

Basically, that's where I'm at.

Will send it off and see how it develops.
To be honest, those photos really do make the scratches look 10 times worse, when it's on the wrist, it looks great.

I have spoken to a authorised repair place and the guy told me (after seeing the pics) that it will definitely need a new case and full overhaul as the internals could have been damaged.

Will keep you posted.
