Good evening.

I am looking to try and identify what I believe to be a genuine (It has been handed down through 4 generations of my family) Breitling gold watch purchased in either Europe or Morocco between 1938 and 1942.
I have found images of the strap, but none of the actual watch face.
I cannot remove the back of the watch.
I would be grateful for any help or advice.

Regards, JezzaBelle

There are but they are tricky to see. I think they say 18K 0.750, 196, 158 and what appears to be the silhouette of a female head.
I will try & upload a photo.

I am going to get a jeweller to remove the back casing to check for more identifying marks, but would be grateful to know if any of the markings I have noted myself mean anything?

Surely, I was not going to reply as Fred was involved already and he is the best guy we have IMHO.
Looks to be 18k gold case back. Real stuff!! Yes, next is to have a watchmaker open and take images of the case back inside and movement. CLEAR images. Cannot stress enough, CLEAR.

well, I'd love this piece to be correct - but do have doubts.

we need a much better pic of that caseback, please; none of the numbers really make sense, maybe grab a loupe and try to read them again, they should typically be readable - one three digit ref. number and a 6 digit serial - that is more important than a movement pic.

dial and hands aren't totally convincing too; better pics would help.

I hope the following photos are clearer.
I have also been given some extra information which may help me on my quest!
On the internal case which covers the workings it says : METAL 262

The external cover shows : NSRMR780, there are also 2, 3-digit numbers, divided by a line

                                               178
                                                -----
                                               954

There are 2 distinct marks on the case which show : 18K y 0,750

On the workings it says : SEVENTEEN JEWELS and UNADJUSTED

There is no 6 digit serial number, but I have been told by another source that 6 digit serial numbers were not introduced until 1948. This watch may well be earlier.

Not a Breitling I'm afraid. Case shouldn't have double case back and numbers don't make sense.

6-digit serial numbers were introduced in the 1920s.
watch is an older fake Breitling imo, others might disagree, but the "serial no. after 1948" is pure bull.
