Hi everyone!

I would like to have your opinion on price for a Bretiling Cosmonaute Chrono-Matic 1809
I know that the price of a watch is in the eyes of the buyer but I would like to know the amount minimum and maximum a watch like the Breitling Cosmonaute 1809 with or without original bracelet and in working conditions should go for.

Im looking at prices since a couple months now and I found they vary a lot and sometimes the price tag doesn't seems to go with the condition of the watch. Ive seen some at 5000$(US)++ with the dial that look redone and some at around 4000$(US) that look in perfect conditions.

I just want to make sure I wont spend money on a watch that is overpriced due to Ebay!
Im mostly looking at real life case, matter of luck or not, of people buying a Breitling Cosmonaute Chrono-Matic 1809 with caliber 14 at X price.

Im also a little bit nervous about doing business with sellers on ebay or internet shops that I don't know. I can say Im becoming more and more comfortable with identification of the watch movement, general conditions and parts but I must admit its hard to tell if a particular watch has been serviced correctly and if all the parts not including bracelet are genuine.
I would like to know if by any chance you guys would have a place or two to recommend for buying the watch if possible in Canada but also in the US and in last resort EU (Exchange rates can be problematic!). Or if any trusted member is willing to sell we could start discussing.

That's it if you have any advises concerning my future buy Im all ear!

Thanks
Hugo

cal. 14 would be the GMT caliber, 1809 have cal. 11/12.
even 4k seem high for US sales ? are you talking about BIN offer prices or completed auctions - auctions rarely end above 3k for the 1809 ?

Hi and thanks for your reply.

Here what I understood about the 1809 different movements:

Venus 178 from 1962 to late 1960s then Caliber 14 automatic late 1960s to early 70`then Caliber 12 1990 to 2001.

Maybe we are talking about 2 differents things! I think the Breitling cal 14 (B14) is completely different from the Chrono-matic cal 14 which is what I was reffering too.

Most Cosmonaute Chrono-matic late 60` I found are all equipped with a chrono-matic Cal.14.

What do you think?

As for the price the prices Im reffering to they are mostly BIN, and not completed auctions as I didnt have the chance to see an auction for the 1809.

Thanks again
Hugo

BIN price listings are no indication of realistic market price.
Can you show me examples of those B14 Cosmonautes ?
u might confuse them with cal. 11 ?

Venus 178 versions were produced until the early 1970s, concurrently w/ cal. 11/12, carried their own ref. no. 819.

From 1962 til approx early 70ies these cosmonautes have a 809 reference (not 1809)
Prices range from approx 12/15K USD for an 1962 all black with wide bezel to approx 4K USD for a late 60ies early 70ies black/white one

Afaik only the 'big cased' (48mm) ones , from the 70ies, have a 1809 reference ? I am not too familiar with those as I am not sure I like them that much

Hi

Here different examples!

(Hope there`s no problem with posting links as I want to provide example of the 1809 with more than one picture at a time)

Here one with a caliber 12 as you mentioned:
http://www.chrono24.com/ca/breitling/co ... /index.htm

Here`s an ended auction Caliber 11 as you mentioned:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-BREITLING- ... 1022624399

Here`s an ended auction for one with caliber 14:
http://www.ebay.fr/itm/Breitling-Naviti ... 0740375366

And finally a listing of some 1809 previously sold the first one with caliber 14 and others caliber:
https://www.collectorsquare.com/luxpric ... -1809.html

On that last page you can see a graph displaying the sell value over the years. As you can compare with the one`s sold as BIN the price tag are defently not as they were before!

Confusing but interresting!

I must change my first statement as I would defenatly accept an 1809 with caliber 11 or caliber 12 also.

Thanks again for your time
Hugo
