So I bought this collector book

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=50772&

browsing through it I noticed something quite familiar on one of the pages
*MY* documentation (the little flyer with the Navitimer marked "XX") , my personal property that I keep in the safe with my watches in a book ??

someone is making money off my documentation . in printed form (not just the interweb, we know we cant do anything about that) publishing it in a book ??? and not even reached out to me and asked my permission to use it or give me credit for it ? Or better yet , source your own damn copy of it !

so.. what steps can I take here ?

And I just received an e-mail from the 'writer' of the book he's started his vintage sales website . I believe using this book as part Accreditation of his expertise

If the book has a legitimate publisher you can contact them - they should have made sure that the author had all required releases.

If it's a self published piece then it's lawyers I'm afraid.

I can completely understand how you feel, as someone who makes at least part of their income from writing I have had to deal with this a few times.

Not yet , I am researching my (copy)rights

If I contact him I want to be prepared. I could ask him to retrieve all sold copies or just give me a fee per sold copy of the book . If that doesnt work I'll get in touch with my legal council. just wanted to hear what you guys think/would do

we put a lot (too much) time in collecting just to let other people use it, print it in books and make money off off my work

most other pictures have , if they're not made/owned by the writer(s), a copyright mark. Just mine doesnt

Can only speak to my publisher experiences, but when an author submits a manuscript they have to include a signed declaration that all of the material is original to the author or that they have releases for all 3rd party material. The author also has to provide those signed releases.

You should contact the publisher straight away and tell them that some of your material is being used without permission and they will likely ask you for some evidence etc.

just send an email to the publisher that they are violating copyrights and asking them what they propose to do about it

Evidence should be very easy as I have the leaflet right here , I can easily make a photograph of the leaflet with todays newspaper (Obama in from of Rembrandts 'Nightwatch' here in Amsterdam) to prove I own it and its mine

Sad news. Be interesting to see what the reason is. Not betting on it but wonder if, it was an honest mistake. What with others having attribution in the book.

Publishers do not want to have to deal with accusations of plagiarism so they ask authors over and over again to confirm that all work is original or credited and the author has to sign a number of legally enforceable documents confirming that fact.

It stretches the bounds of reasonableness to believe that an author 'forgot' that it wasn't their work. I hope that the author loses all royalties (the publisher should have the right to terminate the agreement with the author). Publishers (and authors) hate plagiarists.
