Hello everyone.
I'm new to this site and I wondered if I could get some advice. I bought a Typhoon breitling watch 8 years ago when I was at Coningsby and have never taken it out the box. I even have the original receipt from the dealers in Newark, Notts UK. Thing is, I recently came across it and wanted to see if it was still as beautiful as I remember and whether the battery still worked. I guess it's obvious that after 8 years it's not going to. Well I've just moved to a new house and I'm looking at the possibility of selling this watch but I wondered if it would be advisable for me to get it serviced first. I feel loathed to do so as at the minute only two people have ever touched it and I like the fact I can say that. Secondly I know it costs a bomb to get them serviced and they have to be sent away. I guess that makes me nervous. Also if anyone thinks that I should perhaps hold on to it then please leave your comments below.
PS, if the picture uploads it is a stock photo not the ones of my watch

Keeping it or selling it is up to you. The watch needs a service, especially if the original battery is still in it, but if you are planning to sell it then you are likely better off just selling it with full disclosure that it needs servicing, you likely won't recover service costs in increased selling price.

Welcome to BreitlingSource.

Thank you. I think that sounds pretty sensible. I had always thought I should wait for an anniversary to sell it but I think it would be better owned by someone that would wear it rather than it sitting in a box.

Welcome.

Whatever you do the problem with leaving it is that an expired battery can leak and cause serious damage to the watch. For that reason many buyers would be deterred from buying it. As I understand it a maintenance service would be c£90 and an overhaul £230. I do wonder if you wouldn't recoup even the latter on a sale, because I just wonder how many people would jump at a watch which might have been marinating in battery acid for several years.

Only you can decide this one, but in your shoes - mindful of the fact that resale of these limited edition watches is typically less than non-LE, and given that it has a special association for you - I'd have it fully overhauled, get it on my wrist, and enjoy it.
