The talk of "birth year" watches got me thinking....
That is usually both problematic and potentially expensive :D
I know NOTHING of older Breitlings.
What are the thoughts on this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Possibly-Unique-Breitling-7808-3-Chronomat-Calendar-Logos-NOS-circa-1973-/221288568504?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item3385d396b8

I am going to start educating myself

Correct, although likely later than the case year of 73. This is one of the Old World pieces from a few years back - unsold stock when the original Breitling shut down. It's a very nice watch, a few of them have come up recently, just be aware that the only birth year element is likely the case.

Thank you. I have been trying to sort through the info on the front pages of the website, but figuring out where to start and then trying to organize the study in any useful way is proving daunting. I need a Roff mind-meld!!!

we discussed this one a while back viewtopic.php?f=11&t=49934&hilit=7808

beautiful and rare piece, spectacular condition; unrealistic asking price.

as Roff says, there is no way to say when a specific watch has been assembled and shipped, the serial numbers on the cases were applied during case production; cases were on stock for years and Breitling clearly had no FIFO stock management in place - we only notice this when we see "transitional" pieces that combine new designs with older cases.

BoneDoc; that's as close as you'll get to a "birth year" Breitling if you don't happen to be born in 1954 and able to pick up a 1st generation "no ref. no." Navitimer.
