Was really pleased to hear off my AD in the UK last year about the new Emergency 2 announced at Basel and he said they were due in late 2013 but still nothing. Basel 2014 is only just around the corner and I've not managed to find one.
Has any stock actually got through to stockists yet?
I know the price is steep (to say the least) and I've heard stories about production problems, possible size increase but wondered if anyone had any details about what is going on with them and if/when they might be available?
Hope I'm not repeating anyone's thread already. Looking forward to the new Basel pieces this year

It's delayed, not yet available and no solid date.

My AD in the UK told me last weekend that no real working example exist as China and Russia are not allowing the watches to link to their satellites.

The watch has two ways off issuing a distress signal, one is the old way where a plane has to go directly overhead looking for the signal, the other is satellite based and all satellites will automatically pick up the signal as they pass over a larger area, but the Russians and China are blocking this, so the watch doesn't have world wide coverage at the moment - or something along those lines... Basically Russia and China have delayed it.

Disclaimer - this is just what my AD told me so don't take it as gospel.

OK so that's the lug-width covered ; what's the diameter and thickness?

So that is an increase on the original 51mm? That's just crazy

The sheer size alone will allow any lost individual to be spotted from space.

Yep, originally announced at 51mm, but apparently they just couldn't get everything in there from a regular production standpoint at that size so I am told it's 55mm now. I don't believe that the thickness has changed materially, although I also heard that there was some discussion about reworking the lugs to avoid having to produce straps in a new width (i.e. make the lug width 24mm instead of 26mm).

I talked to Breitling Belgium last week and they told me that the E2 should become available this summer. I asked if there was going to be a size increase and they told me no... They also said it's not the Russians nor the Chinese making a lot of fuss about it, but the Americans... They seem to have some difficulties with the possibilities of the E2 and they don't want to give it any clearance for use in the US. Breitling had to make some small changes to the system and the US should be testing the watch as of now to get it licensed. If the US would agree, Breitling can start selling the E2...

That is what I have been told. Guess there are a lot of different stories going around concerning this watch.

It is always easier to blame the "dark side" for any problems and the public will buy the gossip, hook, line and sinker ;-)

Whatever the reason for the delay it seems that Breitling has made a bit of a mess of the announcement of this piece.
Surely Breitling must have undertaken considerable research as to what could be done in terms of technology and production and then checked what countries would (and would not) allow?
Perhaps all these changes may result in a price increase? You just never know.
