Hello folks! Just discovered the forum, and am hoping you guys can help me out..

I'm a watch fan, I own several makes and models including a couple Seiko's, Rolex, etc. but the one brand I have never worn or owned is a Breitling.

My cousin, realizing I am a "watch guy" is trying to sell me his old Breitling, but truth be told I don't know a whole lot about the brand, and especially am not aware of how to spot a fake.

The watch is quite heavy and from experience with Rolex this is usually a good sign.. I flipped the watch over and found the engraving "13048" on the back, but I went to Google Images and entered "Breitling 13048" and a lot of similar looking models come up, but nothing exactly like this. For this reason I am especially skeptical though.

Here are some pictures I've just snapped on my iPhone, I apologize for the quality

I really appreciate any help because I do not want to be ripped off.. The seller keeps taking offense when I accuse him that I have to check that its legit, but that's the steps I need to take to feel comfortable.

Thanks in advance for any useful information that could impact my decision on this!! Cheers from Toronto !

This is what I read:

"Hi guys. I bought this watch off a website for $10. I know that it's fake but I'm hoping that it might just be good enough to pass as real and I can make a quick buck out of it. Just to make it sound plausible I'll make up some story about it being my grandfather's watch, or finding it in the basement while moving etc etc. If you guys think it's real then I'll flog it off on ebay for a few hundred or thousand bucks and make a killing! I have no interest in watches and I have no interest in contributing to this forum. I just want to make a quick buck. I'm even too lazy to use a google search engine. So guys just spoon feed me the information that I need and you will never hear from me again. By the way, if I don't like what I hear from you guys I will try my luck on another forum. Cheers."

Undoubtedly a lot of people come here knowing full well what they have and seeing if they can get it past people, that's why the comments are generally brief, unequivocal and somewhat dismissive. However, there are undoubtedly genuine requests from people who aren't sure what they have, or perhaps are hoping that they have something real. Everyone deserves an answer regardless of their motivation.

This is such a valuable resource it has helped me verify two/three purchases and understand why. The quality of fakes is exponentially better than it was a decade or two ago.

I do wonder sometimes if the fake makers come on here to figure out how to make better ones.

Indeed, the faker bosses are probably using this site in their performance reviews for their faker craftsman!!!

Hi
I will second that even though I have clocked up a lot of hours on this site
would not even consider a purchase without this sites approval
Cheers
