My very dream about my watch is:

SOHC with 39-40 mm diameter, blue dial and bezel, black sub-dials and black calender discs, that is with day-date feature! (Day-date placed just like on the CSO or the Bentley GT). I would wear this dream on the mesh bracelet.

Quiet day at the office so I've been playing.

Hope this looks like what you were dreaming of!

I kinda like that, but prefer the red / black personally. A blue on blue tone might look good - bezel and subdials a different shade of blue from the main dial.

The problem with adding a day and different size for the SOHC look is that Breitling can't raid the parts bin for anything so even if they agreed to do it the costs would likely be astronomical.

It's stunning, I cannot find the proper words how I like this... to have this in a normal size.... I hope someone from Breitling SA also sees this image: I'm sure cannot be resisted to produce this very watch!!!
Thx for doing this wonderful job!
Best regards: Robertus
I'd be happy to know other opinions in connection with this model, positive and negative are also welcome!

Roff,

I wouldnt take it too personal. I vote for you to "go for it". You definitely have the appropiate connections and to be fair, this isnt the first time we've rolled this idea around on this forum. I think the "moderator" status alone shows the faith the admin and most of us, have in your knowledge and abilities. Our little forum has exploded since I joined and anyone who gets offended by your taking charge, shouldn't. You have been here a lot longer than the majority. Its nothing personal and I truely believe that there isnt anyone, short of a Breitling employee, that is able to do any better.

You will never please or appeal to everyone. Just like the "final" decision about the OUR watch, some people will just not like the "watch" and will not want one. Along with that, if the "group" leaned towards a SA, I personally wouldnt want one because a SA was just too large on my wrist (I tried one on).

I think that the SOHC is a good compromise. I would rather a Steelfish, but the SOH would be fine with me. Large enough to satisfy the lovers of larger watches and small enough to not be hung on the wall. :)

I found that the SOH actually wears a little small, so the size shouldnt scare off anyone. Go try one on.

Last, yet me go on record as saying that if we decide on the SOH or SOHC.........I WANT ONE. Mark me down right now! I get the feeling that the 50 might actually go fast, so I want to get on record with my order!

Scott

I wouldn't mind it but I have to say the red one is a nose ahead for me.

I'm anxious to see what Roff's contacts say regarding our ideas.

Roff,

I'm with you in doing the job to your Breitling contacts. I think the idea of this LE series is perfect.

Nevertheless I'll go for purchasing one of them only if the product itself is according to my taste and is able to be worn according to my standards. Unfortunately I know too well what I really need as a daily wearer - for the cupboard I don't want to by the 10th or so watch, regardless how nice it is.
So if the watch will be the SOHC, with a normal size case, black, blue or black/blue dial and day-date, I'm in, regardless how much to pay. Other chances for purchasing for me are the same dial outfit (colors, day-date) with the Chrono Cockpit or Aviastar.

Regarding the normal size of the SOHC: it is not a real task for a professional and takes cca. 5 minutes to program the CNC machines what case size to produce. I think it is a very logical step that in 2009 a normal size SOHC has to follow suit: the SOH appeared last year in two sizes in the same time and lots of criticism went to Breitling, even on the web, for producing only two relatively "extreme" sizes, leaving out the "normal" size, which is for some 40, for others 42. There are some Valjoux 7750 based chronographs from different factories with "small" diameter: just 2 or 3 to name: Omega Speedy Automatic (one model before last one) 37 mm, Fortis OCC 38 mm, Sinn 356 and Tutima F2 38.5 mm - so it is makeable. If the next logical step comes true, no extra design for the cases has to be made.

Anyway, I would take anything between 38 and 42 mm if day-date and dial color is also alright. Same issue with Chrono Cockpit which I have one but unfortunately with silver sub-dials and date-only (normal product).

Regarding the Aviastar: I do not want to push this idea too hard, rather to explain my original idea:

I think Breitling might still have the tools for producing this watch, finally it was made only 10 years ago. Maybe still has 50 cases on the shelves. Case is practically identical to the Navitimer (except the bezel thing) which gives a very classy Breitling look, without the calculator which is almost unreadable over 40. I'm trying to post a scan a bit later but if I'm unsuccessful everyone can Google "Breitling Aviastar" and then search for images only and finds a handful of good scans.

Here is a link to another Breitling forum with an excellent description of the Aviastar line - if this violates forum rules, mod plz delete!

Best regards from beautiful Budapest: Robertus

Roff - I trust your work and judgment 100%, and I hope you know I do.

As I see it you have the full "authority" to keep up the good work - as no one else have said anything, in my opinion they're not in the position to complain either.

I know we're a bunch of people trying to cheer for you, but I also know it's much easier to listen to 1 negative person than 10 positive persons. So please, just ignore any complaints!

Keep up your work, I truly appreciate it!

I vote for roff too.

That said, I guess ill have to head to the AD to try on a 46. Id love to be in on this, but the watch I buy will actually be worn. I cant justify spending thousands on something that ive bought, because its a limited edition.

I agree, what's the point spending hard earned money on something you aren't going to wear!?

That said, don't judge them mearly by the diameters on paper. My point is that a 6.75 has a larger diameter than a SA, but 'wears' smaller.

I'm not sure how much weight my words will carry here, but hopefully you'll all know me enough to respect my point of view -

I've known Roff (via this forum) as long as anyone here - in fact he joined a couple of days after me - so I am more than happy to let him run with this. If I had the contacts I'd offer to run with this myself, but I don't, so in the absence of doing this myself, Roff is the guy for the task as far as I'm concerned. Let's all be cool and see what we can sort out.

Roff gets my vote.

Just another suggestion on the design, what about have the date font be in red to match the subdials and bezel? It may be too much red though but it was just an idea. I would be interested, but wouldn't commit until the price was known. As for who runs it, Roff gets my vote.

We're going to need to nail down the approved design. Once that is done Roff can work his magic and get us the pricing ;)

Perhaps a new thread is in order. Roff?

I'm in on an SOHC. I prefer the red version over the blue. Though I wouldn't mind seeing a rendering showing red subdial hands.

I'm also behind Roff running this show. having done someting similar in the past...It's a bit like herding cats, you're bound to lose a couple along the way.

You have my support Roff. I know I certainly don't have the contacts, so Im just glad some on this forum do. Im in for any SOHC or SOH, as its something ive been eyeing for a while. I certainly believe we should stay within the constraints of currently produced models and their specs and dimensions to maximise the success of the operation.

I agree with the exception that it is worth a single question wether a normal size case comes into consideration on the Breitling HQ side or not. If yes, a second question should point to the price difference. If the first question gets a negative answer or the price difference is enormous than we should sadly leave it as it is. But there'll be so many questions to ask them I do not think this is the one not to ask at all. (Other is the weekday option, even easier to produce, simply cut a hole into the dial, 'coz the Valjoux 7750 originally has this feature!)

Other idea of "brain-storming": Chrono Superocean with the dial colors of the SOHC Sharkmouth was kind to photoshop us: Blue dial, black subdials and calender discs. Cheap for Breitling to produce, wearable size of 42 mm, typical Breitling design of the rider tab bezel, excellent visibility of the all-dark dial and finally has the day-date windows.

I promise I'll give up collecting new ideas in the very minute the final decision is made - except there'll be a decision that every year a 50 piece LE for BS will be made :)

Good luck, Roff, go on doing the job, I'm behind you!

Regards Robertus
