Agreed, and non chrono for a dress watch (which is inevitably what an 18k piece ends up being) makes sense. However, I'm not sure that I could drop that much on an ETA movement.

This is exactly how I feel and it kills me because I truly love that piece much more than the other options. I just think it's so important that the quality of the inside matches the outside on a piece of this caliber.

Well I have to be honest......

If I were looking for an 18k dress piece with a budget of $20,000, Breitling wouldn't be on the list. At that price point in gold I feel that other brands offer a lot more for the money, especially if you allow list price to stretch a little above $20k on the basis of discount. If you want a round watch then I would personally consider the Arnold HMS1. 40mm, gorgeous in black (http://www.arnoldandson.com/home/royal- ... c111a.aspx) and grey (http://www.arnoldandson.com/home/royal- ... c110a.aspx), 90 hour power reserve, and with a friendly forum sponsor enough change from $20k to buy a steel Breitling.

Thanks for the reply Roff. What you said really makes a lot of sense and I respect that. There's a reasoning behind me wanting an 18k Breitling, that might help you understand my thought process.

I have been the proud owner of 7 beautiful Breitlings over the past 10yrs. Among dozens of other high end pieces ranging from Rolex, AP, Panerai, IWC, B&R, Cartier, etc. And, as we all do, we tend to sell some pieces to buy new ones and so on. I have always come home to Breitling and I have worn a Breitling during some of the most significant experiences in my life. So I have a true connection to Breitling and would love my first 18k piece to be one.

I watch winder currently houses a Seawolf, AP Diver, GMTc, Seamaster 300m, and a few cheapies. I have sold off about 8 of my pieces to buy this one, so it's been a well thought out decision that's been about a year in the making.

Fair enough, can't argue with the logic.

Considering that the B01 is still relatively new, it's likely that most of those Breitlings you have enjoyed were modified eta models. If the cursive B has become a sort of emotional attachment, I think the only option is the Day-date, though based on my Headwind you know I'm a little biased that way.

I get the appeal of in-house movements. I have owned a couple of landmark movement watches and certainly many are gorgeous in both function and appearance. Personally for a gold piece I'd be hard-pressed not to get a JLC. But, your statement above about always coming back just screams Transocean Day-date.

There is a cost to be borne if you would decide to sell it, because a lot of people would buy a different brand in a dressy gold piece, and resale could be softer than other options. It just sounds worth the risk for you, however. Good luck however you decide.

Ok, the decision has been made and the order was placed today. I will reveal which one when it comes in. What I will say is that I went with an in-house movement option!
