I just purchased an Old Navitimer. Seems to be in good shape, except that the bezel spins very easily, to the point where just wearing it with a long sleeve shirt will catch and spin the bezel. As you spin it the bezel will reach points of resistance that feel like what I imaged a normal bezel should be about every 50* or so (not at all stiff, still easier to turn then any diving bezel I've ever had). There is a little play in the bezel (about 1mm or less), and I understand that is normal but it might help point out the problem.

Is it supposed to be that loose? If not is there any way to tighten it without sending it in for a service that will end up costing me almost as much as I paid for it?

Navitimer bezel isn't like diver style bezels, it is friction fit and is relatively easy to turn. No real way of knowing whether yours is normal without seeing it but it does sound like the watch needs servicing - do you know when the watch was last serviced? If you don't then that might also be an indication that it needs one! There's not really anything that you can do to adjust it yourself.
