But it's not vintage, it's 'new' Breitling from the 80s.

I have researched this watch on the web and never found any that were an exact match - none that have clothe straps. The only data I found were the photos shared with you in my original email and it appears any watch can be uploaded to that sight...I am watch enthusiast that is an incredible novice. Do you have any suggestions on websites or books that would help me learn more about Breitling Watches?

:welcome:

That's OK. We all start somewhere, so be relaxed.

Dracha has suggested that its a well documented model out there, and there is a great deal of info to look at. You could start here on the BSF in the Breitling Model section. Have a look under the Colt Series. Its here at http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_de ... t_148.html But, with the same military colt clicked into Google, its amazing how much comes up.

The watch has a different bezel marking layout to others (including the one on this website) but they are out there with the same markings. The ETA movement looks the same and so does the general dal layout. It certainly looks well used, as the PVD finish has been partially lost on the crown and rider tabs on the bezel. Bezel looks like it has been scraped and to do that sort of damage it would appear to me that the same knocking or glancing has occurred over a period of time. Not sure why I think that, but would be hard to think the scraping was a one off, being so even across the face of the watch.

You can draw your own conclusions about use/abuse, but lets say its been well used. The lack of an authentic strap probably means that the original has worn out or was damaged, and therefore replaced with a Nato (cloth) strap. I am not an expert but I would so assume the case back might be a special model, as it is different to most of the stock versions you can see (including the one on this website). You will also note special models within the watch dial on some found on the internet, so there must have been limited runs for special commemorations, etc.

Welcome and happy researching.
