Of course it'd be sane Aleister, if I had anything to do with it! After all I'm a quiet and reserved Brit!

In all seriousness I'd love to do something like this, but I think it'd be an absolute nightmare to get off the ground -

Firstly, we'd have to get Breitling bought into the whole thing by them agreeing to do it. (Hurdle No.1 - and one of pole-vault sized proportions I'd imagine! Obviously if we had someone like David Beckham or John Travolta on here as members to "persuade" them then we might get somewhere!)

Secondly, assuming Breitling's buy-in (and assuming a run of 50 pieces), we'd undoubtedly need a total 100% guaranteed 50 buyers up front as I'm sure Breitling would want to sell the whole lot immediately and wouldn't send them to ADs to sell. Either that or someone prepared to buy the whole lot themselves and sell on! (Hurdle No.2 - considering we still have less than 2000 members, the odds of getting 50 like-minded souls prepared (and able) to part with around £2500 at the same time is anorexically slim!)

Thirdly, assuming Breitling's buy-in and a cast-iron agreement from 50 people to buy one, we have the age old problem of agreeing what model.... and what colour..... etc, etc. (Hurdle No.3 - if this forum shows us anything it's that we're all rabidly different in our watch tastes : from model, to colour, to size, etc).

Anyway...., an interesting (if, no doubt, sadly only an academic) idea.

I absolutely share your thinking and your concerns Driver.

Hell, I used to be on another forum and when the forum decided the members could buy t-shirts, some people went from best of friends to the worst of friends. And at that time, we're talking an item for $40, the color and print already decided upon... Sick.

I bet, for getting a reasonable deal on 50 watches it should be something most people like (or could get used to) without getting too expensive. I doubt we could agree on a Flying B Chrono as the model... Rather I think the Steelfish could be "the" watch. Fairly large, most people seems to like it and not the most expensive model.

Of course, getting agreements on the design and then getting 50 committed people... Might be pretty difficult, I suspect a few members have minimized their available watch budgets after Roffensian's and Mario's deals.

However - interesting. :)

This seems to be a fairly safe color combination for a limited edition? What other color options did you have in mind Breitling Bloke? What about a black dial with silver tabs outlining the green tabs to tie in with the green bezel. What is it exactly that you don't like? Just curious of your opinion Bloke. :D

Sorry but just don't like green.

Love the dial - with a different bezel it would be superb IMHO. I guess it would be hard to see one in the flesh so it's not likely that I'd change my mind on a photograph.

The SOH I'm after is the black one and the bronze and blue don't really do much for me even though I'm attracted by the retro style.

Guess I'm a little unadventurous.

I think I could probably facilitate overcoming the Breitling hurdle, especially with some assistance from the admitted and not so admitted insiders on here - it may take some time, but there are a few people with the right connections.

The big problem is going to be the financing - we would need signed contracts with deposits at the very least. That of course would be the test - it's one thing to sya you're interested, it's another to commit to several thousand dollars.

That said, I'd be a lot more in favour of something like that than a logo.

Well, to be honest, I'm in if we can decide on a model and color scheme. I agree, though. Members debating in open forum style would result in chaos. It would be better if we could narrow it down to just a few pieces in terms of color choice. I would prefer not to do a Breitling Source logo, but rather a color combo as menttioned before. I certainly would like a distinctive combo, as mentioned. Possibly the red and black would be nice (on a red Racer strap?).
I must mention, as many of us are probably aware, squadrons from many differing countries and services have done this before, albeit on a smaller scale. What I mean is, they generally did 50 pieces, but they were all in one "place", as it were, and the squadron commanders generally made an arbitrary decision as to the logo, etc., and then worked with Breitling on price, production and delivery.
So it is entirely possible.
Just my thoughts....
(BTW, didn't TZ do this years ago with a different watch company, with a TZ logo?)

I absolutely agree with JBBB and Roffs comments, with the co-ordination and finance side proving very problematic.

Personally I would definitely go for a unique colour combo (on the right model), and I'd definitely NOT go for a logo option (on ANY model!). A logo really ties it into a very specific niche audience - I post on this site at lot, but I still personally woudn't want to own a watch emblazoned with the site's name, whereas a unique dial/bezel colour combo takes it into the realms of being a genuinely desirable limited edition.

The other interesting thing to remember is that with a genuine LE like this would be, you may find people willing to speculatively buy more than one piece for the purpose of selling on. Any brand new limited edition piece such as this (especially if bought at a group price) would command a healthy premium on the open market. We may find that we'd actually need less than 50 people to fulfill the quota for 50 watches. I'm sure we'd find a few "investors" on here.....

So hypothetically in terms of buyers it seems we could get myself, Aleister, Roff and JBBB. On top of that I'm pretty sure Mario would jump on it, and I bet Admin would have a piece of the action too. So that's 6 of us..... buying 8.3 watches each. Anyone up for that?

I'd be in for sure, depending on the model of course ;)

I mean I'm as much a man as any one else but i don't think I can pull off a Starliner :P

I might eve be in on it, assuming its logo-free like Driver suggested. A nice color combo would definitely make it more desirable.

I might be in as well. I also have someone in mind that would be interested

Are we still talking about the SOH? or something else like the SF?

Yellow dial Steelfish, anyone?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!! :!: :!: :!:

I (and I presume AT LEAST 50 members here and on the other boards) would do backflips for that one.

I listening.......I can get on board under these terms for starters.

Alright, now I can't stop thinking about the unlikely event of a Breitling Source LE. I have always wished Breitling had more display back models. There just is not enough of these IMHO. I would also vote for something like the speed bracelet. I think the size (24mm) would look great and lend itself to a bit more exclusivity.

This could definitely be interesting..............
