My wife's Galactic 30 just recently came back from BUK after a warranty repair - we collected it from our AD last week. She has just suddenly had the watch come away from her wrist as the strap was not fitted to the case properly on one side. It fell onto our hard tiled kitchen floor but is functioning ok with no visible damage. Question is apart from re-connecting the strap, would it be necessary to return it to Breitling for checking over? She really doesn't want to be without it again and I wondered as it was quartz rather than mechanical that it should be ok?

Definitely needs checking out by Breitling, and tell them how it occurred so that it is covered under the warranty. The problems may not be obvious immediately but could easily have done significant damage. At the very least an AD with a watchmaker should check it out.

Thanks for that - I fear that she won't see it again now this side of Christmas - surely a case for some compensation for such negligence?

They prioritise warranty work and should accelerate things in such a case as this, so I think you'd have a chance of getting it back before xmas.

I had a similar experience recently. My coral Emergency came back from a full service at Breitling in Switzerland and as soon as I put it on, the springbar between the UTC module and the bracelet popped right out. I put it back in and it came out just as easily. As I work about two blocks from the Breitling Boutique in Manhattan, I bought it by for a new spring bar. When the watch tinkerer measured the spring bar that Breitling had put in, it was about 1 mm too short. He scratched his head, apologised profusely, and replaced the springbar with the correct size; even gave me two more for the trouble...he was mystified as to how the bar could be too short and escape notice before the watch was shipped back to me.

Yep, that's life. No rhyme or reason for it. :?

One would assume it would have been noticed by Breitling and should have (probably) happened to them when working on the watch, etc. A recent watch acquisition of mine saw both springabars pop out of the case lugs at different times. Strap is correct for the watch, but springbars were too weak to support strapping. Correct sized bars as well, but just too thin to support the forces imposed. Dropped the watch twice. Once is forgivable, but twice is sheer carelessness on my part. Why did it not happen to the previous owner?

Glad your watchmaker was mystified and fixed it for you then and there. Sounds like someone you should refer to if needed in the future. When you find a good one, don't let them go.

unfortunately, he was not my watchtinkerer; he was the guy that works at the Breitling Boutique....nice guy, but they do not do any real work at the Boutique. Almost everything gets shipped off to Wilton...

To update - it is now back at Breitling UK and they have said we should get it back within 2 weeks. It is lucky it didn't happen when my wife was out of the house or she wouldn't have noticed it had fallen off her wrist!

Probably also lucky it was at home, where there might be less probability of major damage or loss. Always more difficult to retrieve a watch when it slips off the wrist over open water. Not me, someone else.
