dial on that one makes me wonder, Bill ?

It does look dodgey, don't it? I went back and added the image of the front for completeness sake. I think the dial does look re-painted, but I judge the caseback to be all original and circa 1952 pattern. I don't have a note as to whose watch that is and please note that I don't collect these, so I'm only using my experience with period Breitling markings.

Another thing to consider along the lines that Rene raised, is how might a solid gold case ordered from a maker different than for plated or stainless steel cases mark the cases differently. I think there might be variations there, but I really don't know.

I am reasoning along those lines, for example , a solid 18K gold 806 looks very different from. SS / GP model of the same year

Different bezel, different lugs, different fonts for ref and serial because the gold case is probably made by a different company than the SS / GP

It wouldnt surprise me if a solid gold datora case and fonts are different from a SS / GP for the same reasona

And i wish people would stop leaving threads but instead offer their detailed opinions and insights , we (I) might learn instead of having to guess amd hypothesize

René, sorry, I needed my notebook to answer. Yes, I'm with you for a objective discussion - that's what I expect!

OK, again my opinion: Datoras were no massproducts in the 50ies (espacially 18K-ones were, as we all know, very rare). I think also, the gold-cases were made from different companies. And these comapnies have made different type of cases, bottom and signs. Maybe this is also the reason for the " ", -- and / in the ref. These watches were really handmade and no massproducts and this is the reason, why some models are looking different.

I think, we're all together that the movement is original. Not like here: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Breitling-Datora-Triple-Date-Moonphase-/121211531295?orig_cvip=true

For me the facts are more positive than negative. On the other hand, we have no other 89-(/)28 examples for comparison. Maybe sometimes we can compare with another one...

The example from Bill is currently questionable for me, especially because of the missing movement picture.
