:yeahthat

Idiotic, childish and highly disrespectful springs to mind. Apparently it was in full view of the groundstaff who spend a huge amount of time preparing the pitch.

Not acceptable behaviour in my opinion.

No worries, we'll take the Ashes back in a few months ;-) Hoping to get to the Sydney test if I can get a day off work.

Definitely agree with the above. A good series win by England but the performances were a lot closer than the scorelines indicated. Would have liked to have seen the two rained out tests go to the wire. No doubt the Oval would have been a draw but game 3 I'm sure would have done to Australia. England certainly with a defensive mindset in game 5 which was a little odd given that the Ashes had already been retained. Might have given up something psychological there. For the record I also don't think that Peterson is the best English cricketer of all time either as that one article suggested.

I feel really pretty good about our chances in Australia. Looking forward to the series.

With the exception of Cook, Root, and Bell, they're personally a hard team to like.

2 and a half hours to go and it's time to get this thread back to the top. I'm going England with a three-one win. I don't think the Aussies have improved that much and England must play better than the last series. I don't think winning the toss will be as crucial in Oz as it was in England. Bring it on !!!!!

A cliche but this first Test is so critical. (Aus batting.)

If they post a score, make the England bowlers look ordinary on an Aus wicket, allow Johnson to settle his customary red-ball jitters etc, and win, it'll be a huge test of England's character, though of course they only need a draw to retain the Ashes. If England overcome their wretched record in series-opening tests, and indeed at Brisbane, get Aus cheaply despite losing the toss, nervous debutant Carberry gets runs and settles, it'll look like, in Yogi Berra's immortal words, deja vu all over again.

Aus 12-1, Broad silences the boo-boys...

Still early, but looks like the batsmen are settling in now. Can't see a different result in the series this time around, but here's hoping that it's competitive and sporting.

I'm on holidays, it's 25 degrees, watching it on a big screen with a bunch of mates and a few beers. I'm a block away from the beach. Australia are 1/50 odd. Does life get much better than this?

(Cue massive batting collapse)

Seems like a decent (somewhat unspectacular) start for Australia. Nothing like the old days of Langer and Hayden. Looks like a beautiful day. With a bunch of mates attending and the game in my backyard I'm a little depressed not to be there myself.

I think it'll be a close series. Australia I feel have to win this test. Perth is always tough for any visiting team but the other three locations are more 50/50. Australia to win his series 3-1.

On an aside. I've just been reading from some mates that KP has been copping an absolute mouthful from the crowd but has handled it superbly, even waltzing up at drinks and posing for photos. Can't help but be a little impressed. Good banter in any event.

Great cue there Greg.

27 degrees up here, perfectly sunny and I can see the beach from my local cafe where I'm enjoying lunch and grandstand on the radio.

8/273. After 6/120 I'll take that. If we can push on to a little above 300 at least our bowlers will have a target to defend.

Nicely balanced at the end of day 1.

Don't have Sky Sports any more so will have to wait until tonight for the highlights.

In contrast it's 5 degrees here, and I'm sitting in my house with the front door wide open as two blokes attempt to fit a new central heating system in my house (no hot water or heating for 4 days), plus no access to Sky so can't watch the cricket at all!!!! :x

Looks like it's shaping up to be a good test though.
