Hey guys.. so I was traveling around in an airport recently, and I was appauled to see only ROLEX dominating the timepieces in the airport, that is the clocks in the airports were furnished or sponsored by Rolex. Why has BREITLING not taken any initiatives to market their product in airports, or abroad. In some places of Europe people say Breitling who? I think the market is so heavily saturated with Rolex and Omegas, and others.

Furthermore, during the Olympics, did Breitling not want to sponsor anything, yes we have exclusive watches, but some people have no idea even in America who Breitling is....

I mean its not whether or not someone looks at your watch and says hmm its a Breitling, its completely up to you in my eyes, that you are happy and satisfied, for me its a timepiece a true marvel.

Omega is a long time official Olympic time keeper. You see breitling everywhere around air races and air shows... just depends on where you hang out I guess. :?

I kind of like the fact they sponsor nearly exclusively to the aviation industry. My sister in law spotted my airwolf one day, & said "that's a nice watch, looks expensive, is it a Longines." I said it was a Breitling. She said "never heard of it but it looks very nice."
Poor thing..But the fact that it gets noticed & admired is what I like, not the fact that people go..wow a Breitling. To me it makes it more exclusive. When people have a Rolex I assume its a fake or they're wearing it for brand status. The exception are people like my doctor(a very unassuming discreet person) who wear an understated Rolex.
To each their own, I enjoy the exclusiveness & comments about my watch for its appeal not brand image.(although I love the brand to bits)
cheers David

I had a similar one the other day. This guy was like "thats a nice watch. What kind is it?"...
Me: "A breitling"...
Him: "oh, who makes that?"
Me: "Breitling is the name of the brand"
Him: "Oh ok. It looks pretty cool."

Totally agreed! They should market themselves at least in fashion/money magazines and website. Its about time!

I had a slightly different Breitling recognition experience.

A few years ago, not long after I had bought my first
Breitling, an Evo, I was waiting in a local bar/restaurant
here in Michigan for a takeout order (great sandwiches!). An older
couple -- probably in their seventies -- was sitting next to me
at the bar. I noticed that the lady kept staring at my watch. Finally,
she said, "Excuse me, Sir, that's a beautiful watch. It's a Breitling, isn't it?"

I was surprised, to say the least. "Yes, it is," I said. "Most people
ask me if it's a Rolex."

"Oh, it doesn't look anything like a Rolex," she said. "Breitlings
have a much more distinctive look."

I must've given her a bemused look, because she said, "Oh there's
no mystery. My son owns a Breitling dealership in Arizona." :)

This has been discussed some what before.

But I also agree with the lack of recognition people have of the Breitling brand compared to Rolex and Omega. Which some people like, and other wish for their watch to not be compared to lesser brands.

Even my uncle who sports a Rolex is not aware of the Breitling brand, or at least he pretends to be. :?

It's funny how people with a Rolex think they own a superior watch because of the name. I could see myself owning a variety of Breitling watches long before I ever began to think about owning a Rolex.

Well when it comes to sponsorship / product placement there are likely exclusivity arrangements in place to avoid competing watch brands (or competing brands of anything else) from advertising - it's why you see Coke events and Pepsi events.

In terms of advertising - Breitling's market share is exapnding rapidly and we are seeing shortages in a number of product lines due to supply outsripping demand. Doesn't sound to me like Breitling need to do much more promotional stuff

Well personally I like the fact that Breitling is less well known than Omega and Rolex. It lends a slight air of exclusivity. And as Mario said, the world of aviation is supported very well by Breitling. In fact I've been at the Bournemouth Air Festival this weekend and Breilting had a charity ball event going on. Unfortunately I didnt hear about it till late so didn't manage to snare any tickets. :?

I agree with Driver8

I'm happy with the style, quality and accuracy of the Breitling timepieces I own (and want to own) and really couldn't care if anyone recognises the brand or name.

Lets keep it in the aviation world - ssshhh!

Hi, Si. I'm in agreement with all you guys. Interestingly, Breitling have placed advertisements in other publications besides aviation periodicals. "Esquire" and "Golf Digest" have had Breitling Ads for over a year now. :)

Cheers,
Ron

PS. I packed your wallet in a padded envelope and addressed it today for you. Tomorrow is a holiday here so it won't post until Tuesday.

I agree with Driver - I think the advertising Breitling do in all types of magazines (I see ads quite often on Men's fashion magazines) and the advertisment in connection with air shows is enough.

Here it's easier to answer. Omega have bought exclusivity in connection with the olympics - they can (and will) sue the olympic committee and the other brand for major dollars if any other brand tried to market themselves in connection with the olympics.
