How does this one look? It looks good to my admittedly untrained eye.

Also, any info on about how much a premier version should go for above a normal 769? It looks to me like a normal 769 in good condition is selling for around $2.5K, but I haven't seen enough premiers to be able to follow the price.

Here's another one that looks real at least to me and in good condition:

I would lean toward the US version before the one in London. I am sure that WatchFred will give his opinion and would not be surprised if he agrees.

First one looks real (though is the seconds subdial hand wrong?) but quite aggressively priced. Second one has some issues -- dial is redone (and Bill declares so) and hands are not right, despite the long explanation (I think). But wait to hear what Fred says.

Did not see the box Rene, but you are right. No AVI on the back of this watch. Sorry. LOL.

It is the intangibles of these two that I am wanting to hear Mr. Fred's input on. Both have issues in all departments. The box could sway but it is very aggressive in the price area. IMHO.

disagree. but 1st to clarify a confusion, both are 18k ref. 769s; none is a "Premier" by definition; Breitling installed very confusingly marked Venus 175s in the mid 1940s; some unmarked, some w/ script Breitling, some with Breitling and Premier; quite inconsistent, but "Premier" was a line of chronographs, marked as such on the dials, from the late mid 40s also on the movements, some ended up in Chronomat 769s.

why do I disagree ? The black 769 is far from "mint" in my definition, it has a refinished dial and - for me - incorrect hands.

Bill admits the dial refinishing (good work, btw.) and knows the hands are wrong, just tries to argue they "could" be correct.

Another very disappointing listing by Mr. Shaine; though other sellers are still worse.

UK piece is nice (not totally sure re the hour hand), though this seller often tends to use even more hyperbole than Bill, often unwarranted.

edit: Dave is correct re the running seconds hand; minor, but incorrect

edit2: UK seller had this one listed for UKP 4.5k for some time, now reduced it to what I consider a realistic range, considering it comes with a box - and he's accepting offers, will be interesting to see where it sells, have seen worse 18k 769s sell in a similar range

edit 3: hate typos

I agree with Mr. Fred on this for sure. My misgiving was the UK seller that I am not as keen on but know Fred is. UK seller to me seems to really P T Burnum his watches to the extreme which would keep me away. Bill on the other hand, I pretty much know with this example what I am getting, not great but not bad. An ok watch maybe at an ok price if bidders don't get stupid. Personally, I would NEVER buy a redial. Just a serious no-no for me.

Got to love Mr. Fred for his great knowledge. Great asset.

Wayne

Edit: Having now dealt with the hands issue which gives me a headache typing this, minor I agree considering the difficulty in finding proper hands for this age of watch. I could live with it.

Thanks for all of the help. You guys are the best.

Also, what does AVI mean?

What are the best places to try to find a chronomat? I've been looking on ebay and chrono24 for a little while now. Any other good places?

Also, just for an FYI, I contacted the seller, and he said he would take 3000 UKP. Maybe that's more reasonable.

AVI is a Breitling model, a bit of history here: http://forums.watchuseek.com/f39/breitl ... -9103.html

Dracha and me are always hunting for these; he typically wins, as I seem to act like a retard whenever I bid on them.

ebay and c24 are your best bets, farfo.com is worth a look.

Crikey, disappear for an hour and the board goes wild. Nothing much to add here, agree that the UK one is the better bet, although not perfect. GBP3,000 isn't bad depending on the value that you put on the box - wouldn't be surprised if it sells to someone at that price.

Haha I see. I'm sure you'll break out of your slump at some point.

Thanks again for all of your guys's help. You sure make this process a lot easier and safer.

I am looking to actually buy one of these if I can find a good one at a reasonable price. Is it okay if I post some more links if I see other ones I think are real on this thread?
