Wearing my 801 to work again today, love the look of it with its lovely old slightly brown face. It really is a beautiful watch. Should I post any more better photos of this for reference or is there enough information out there already for members or collectors?

I have really only ever seen the photos of the one on "The Unofficial Breitling FAQ" website. That one looks like it is in mint condition, but would the dial have been refinished?

Another question is insurance value. I attempted to get a valuation in NZ from a Breitling agent, but they had no idea at all and were not very interested. I currently have it insured for NZ$7500.00 ( approx US$6000.00 ) Is this realistic or not ? I realise I could not get another one, but I should at least have it covered properly in case of fire or theft. Your comments will be gratefully received.

Always enjoy seeing pictures of this - the more the merrier. I would not use that particular site as reference for anything, many are sourced from a very disreputable source.

The insurance valuation isn't a million miles away, but for future proofing I think I would bump it up a bit.

+1, I would insure it for 10K or even more just to be safe and considering is extremely unlikely that it can be replaced. They surely don't appear on the market, I have been looking for a all correct moonphase version for long with no success.

Thanks for your comments re insurance value. Sounds like my estimates were not too far away. Irreplaceable anyway, but better to be insured than to suffer a total loss.

I will put up some better photos of the movement when I sort out my camera.

Here is a scan of the original envelope with the slide rule instructions. This came with the 801 when my father bought it. Some interesting calculations. Of course today these are very simplistic, but back then, before calculators and computers, this had some relevance. My father was a civil engineer which is one reason why he liked the slide rule function., in fact he taught me to use slide rules well before any modern machines were available.
