Hi Everyone,

This is my first post!!

I've just px'd my 2002 Breitling Colt for a SuperOcean II. Does anyone know if a ceramic bezel is on the horizon for it?

Welcome aboard.

I'd say a ceramic bezel is highly unlikely, at least in the short term. Breitling seem extremely resistant to using interesting materials like ceramic as they concentrate on DLC coating things. A few of us have long been hoping for a ceramic model or two, but so far no joy.

I don't know, ceramic would be "me too" right about now and show little imagination. The rubber is weird, but despite misgivings no-one seems to have had any actual trouble with it. How it will stand up in 20 years' time is not known, but the general designs of modern Breitlings suggest they're not too bothered by that, as they'll be in the back of a drawer by then or remaindered on eBay - which is a shame .

There really is absolutely nothing wrong with the old steel version. And the new Aerospace shows how that design can be updated to look more modern. If I had a Superocean II, I'd look for an old Superocean steel bezel (the later one with the more angular numbers, used also in the 42mm Steelfish from all the way back in 2004) and swap it in.

I don't think they are swappable. The screws are completely different sizes.

Yes, they are swappable. I have a CSO I. and was disturbed by the classic steel bezel damaging my pullovers one after the other and was lucky to put my hands on the SO II. (rubber-inlay) bezel wich fits perfectly. Now the watch looks less high and nicer. The italic digits and the missing lume dot disturbs be though. A black ceramic inlay bezel would be nice...

how are the ceramic bezels? I've been steering towards older Rolex' and the yachtmaster just to get the metal bezel.

The ceramic bezels look better IMO and are very scratch resistant.

do you have any issues with ceramics breaking?

Like anything, yes they can be damaged, but the kind of impact you'd need to damage a ceramic bezel will definitely damage a metal bezel as well.
