And the rise of IWC in Asia. Makes my blood curdle as a Breitling fan....

The Watch Snob actually reviews a Panerai...

+ 1

I really like my one due to it's history; however, tenuous it may be as pointed out by the Watch Snob. I read somewhere, a statement made by George Kern; in which he stated we aren't simply selling a watch/timepiece we are selling a story. And I think there is a lot of truth there! My three favorite watches I own due to their historical roots/significance:

1. IWC Big Pilot 5002/01
2. Omega Speedmaster 145.012/67
3. Panerai 183 (at the time of purchase I couldn't afford the 190, & it was the closest to it cosmetically, so I purchased it - no regrets, well ok maybe a little but I can live with i! :nana: )

The following watches are on my short list due to their historical intrinsic value to me, Panerai - 1950 Luminor Case & IWC Portuguese.

Cheers,

Enezdez

Costco's Canadian website now features a number of Panerai watches - I hadn't noticed that before. Is that an indication of anything on the part of Costco or Panerai? Does Costco want a larger share of the grey market for more brands, or are Panerai ADs having difficulty selling some models, or something else?

Had ever been a Panerai fan before and whenever my wife and I walked pass a Panerai boutique, she would ask why so many people like Panerai and feels that the watches are ugly. Until last week we decided to walk into a boutique and try on some of the pieces for fun. I was given a 44mm Luminor and the moment I put it on my wife was amazed at how much better it looked on the wrist then on display. She then decided to try one herself. She has very small wrists but when given a 42mm it did not look out of place at all. She was so impressed that she is now aiming one herself. I think the beauty of PAMs is that despite their huge sizes, they have the ability to fit in almost any wrist size asethetically without looking weird. It looks dated to many but when they start learning about the history of the brand, they start to appreciate and accept the look and big sizes as their classic. One thing though is that the weight needs sometime getting used to. I didn't have any problems with my Chronomat since the first time I tried on because the weight is very well distributed with the pilot bracelet so I feel very comfortable wearing it. However for the PAMs the straps are light and comfortable but it's like all the weight is concentrated on the case at the top so the feeling is a little weird when I wear it. As mentioned perharps I just need to get used to it. One thing for sure, the brand has grown on me and I'm bound to get one!

Love my 00024J, its fun changing straps and would love to pick up a Ti, Sandwich dial with a hand cranker in it.... 176/177 and between the two I would have the ETA base models covered. At the moment Breitling & Panerai are my favorites with Rolex close behind.....

24 on my new Micah strap..

The only real problem was after I picked up the 24 must have spent over 2500 bucks on straps..... Could have bought another nice watch????

I don't like Panerai personally. The design is nice, sleek and unique at the first glance. But in the long term, I would be bored by it. Not masculine enough for my taste. Rather unisex-stylish. Boutique-look. No offence, just my own taste.

I know it's each to their own (and I take absolutely no offense at all), but I don't think I've ever heard Panerai be described as not masculine, or unisex in styling before!

My girlfriend (who happens to be Italian so is probably biased!) actually thinks my Panerai is the most manly watch I own, so yours is an interesting take on their appearance.

But each to their own, and as we always say, it'd be a boring world if we all liked the same thing!

Glad it's not just me who thought that! I thought the Panerai reputation was for being steroidally butch.

Good to know, that I won't be banned from here because of my opinion flow :-). Well, the round edges, the sleek design, the rounded glas, there's a lot of rounded angles everywhere on the Panerais, that's - according to my taste - rather unisex, not the size. But right: One could easily find many attributes describing the Panerais as being absolutely manly. It's just a question of perception and perspective. As always :-).

In any case, this brand manages to follow their strict design guidelines like other high-end brands as Rolex, Omega or IWC, which really cannot be asserted for Breitling. But somehow I like their (Breitling's) iffiness and indetermination in terms of their design. Don't know why...

Is the OP "jumping in the pool" on vacations or actually diving?

I bring my Omega on beach vacations, but I rarely go more than 100 feet below sea level. I had a Breitling and wound up getting rid of it because of a very poor experience with Breitling customer service when the watch went kaplooey under warranty, but on a steel bracelet, who cares what the watch looks like underwater if you're using it for diving purposes (and personally, I like the Panerai on a steel bracelet vs. leather).
