So, money not being an issue, what would be the best thing to do with this watch?

He LOVES it the way it is. Should I just leave it? We're the kind of people that love getting a good deal, but it's also very important to us that our items are authentic. The first thing I did when I got my Rolex was open it up...I'm going to test the diamonds with a diamond pen when I get home because now I'm paranoid haha.

Should I bring it to Breitling in the city or should I just bring it to an authorized dealer? If the dial is fake (I trust you), then I would like to replace it with something genuine.

Any Breitling AD with a watchmaker on site can open the case-back and let you know while you wait (r close to that). Then you will know - if it has a caliber 13 engine and he likes the watch, leave it be. If it's an Asian 7750 clone, sooner or later the chrono is likely to stop working and since the parts are non-standard, they are impossible to get fixed.

Still, my bet is the case, movement and bracelet are gen and the dial and bezel are not.

Sorry. Let me re-phrase that question. Do they all have the date on the case behind the band?

Thank you to everyone!! This has been incredibly insightful. I work very closely with jewelry/fine watches, so I am familiar with them but I have to say the Breitlings are a bit of a "blind spot" for me.

I spoke with my boyfriend and he just wants to leave the watch as-is. He loves it, so I guess that's what really matters in the end! I have access to do a Watch CSA report on the watch and it checked out. One day this week, I will open it up to see the movement, but everything else appears to be okay (with the exception of the dial/bezel as discussed).

This is interesting. I'm sure that it was phased in slowly model by model just like the Rolex serial numbers between the case lugs are being phased out. I saw a 2008 Submariner recently that had no serial number when I removed the band between the case lugs and I panicked, thinking it was fake before doing more research.
