Regarding the home owners insurance, it's worth while to actually look into how your particular home owner's policy works. Travelers cuts a check for the aprraised value of the ring, they do not issue a replacement piece. Not sure about all insurers, but this is directly from their website:

"Loss settlement
Since items of this nature vary so widely, losses are settled differently, depending on the type of property insured. For jewelry and fine arts, in the case of a total loss to a scheduled, appraised item, you are reimbursed for the agreed value shown on your policy."

your home rider will almost always have a deductible, most separate jewelry policies do not, and the rider usually costs more than a dedicated policy, plus if you lose your watch, do you want your home owners insurance going up for the next 10 years because you put in a claim?

I have all of my pieces as named items on my contents insurance for replacement cost and it's been that way for years at no additional cost (contents is based as a percentage of home's value and I simply need to name items over a certain threshold). My premiums are protected against increases on first claim and the deductible is less than separate insurance would cost (and that's not really an apples to apples comparison anyway as you pay the premium every year but presumably don't claim annually).

There is huge variation from market to market and company to company, and even sometimes based on the area, the time with the company, etc, etc. I don't think that there is a single right solution for everyone, just do your homework.

Sorry for bringing an old thread to the top but does anyone have a contact for Chubb? There seem to be a few websites and companies with the same name in the UK. Looking for someone to insure my watches.

Thanks.
