Hello guys, I am looking for a Breitling Datora 785 or 784.
In Germany, some are offered, but they are too expensive for me. Do you think I can find a cheaper in America? Do you know some sellers?
And do you think this very special watch is suitable for the arm of a woman?

I have deleted your duplicate topic, please don't double post.

These watches don't come up very often and pricing is driven by condition and history rather than location. There will likely be more available in Europe than in the US, and I don't see why a woman can't wear them - not something that you typically see, but if you like it and it doesn't dominate your arm then why not!

, and if you're patient they can be bought at very reasonable prices

Sure would look beautiful on a womans wrist too, they have one of the most beautiful triple date vintage dials I have come across and ended up getting one. But before you buy, please do cross check with the knowledgeable forumers here by posting pictures (dial, case, caseback, movement pics) so that you don't get duped by fakers out there.

Here's a pics of mine from 1946 witha Valjoux 72C movement, they have slight variations in hands, movement engravings etc. over the years

the ref. 785 above has an original dial, Anissa. Do currently not know of a reliable seller that has a 784 or 785 Datora for sale, you'll need a bit of patience - and beware, most are fake or franken.

here's a Datora 784

quite rare - and an attractive target for fakers, as they often do achieve high prices.

Thanks, here's the whole story of my 785 when Fred first spotted it, you will find quite a lot of tips on what characteristics to look for

And further documentation of the watch here.

Hope all the info on these threads helps new hunters of these beautiful 784/785 references like yourself. Btw you mentioned some trusted sellers in Germany who have them but are expensive, could you please share pics of the watches they have?

There are three major reasons this watch has been the target of fakers over several years. One being the price they command. Rarity is first on the faker hit parade. Rare means more money which in turn is usually the first ones faked. Second is the time period of the watches. Movements were not signed often or at all during this time so that is one box they can easily mark off as not to worry too much about. Just put in the RIGHT movement and someone can manipulate the rest easily. But third is the scary one. The dial. Do this one time. Google: Vintage moonphase watch. You will see just how many manufactures used the same dial, to the "T". Many, many no named brands out there just waiting to become the fakers choice. And I will bet one of those guys will read this too and think, "Correct".

Trust me, they are on this and all the other watch sites trying to figure out what they and others did wrong to better their work.

Thank you cruvon, thank you watchfred, thank you Waynepjr1, but do you think, because I am a woman, I have no knowledge about watches? I know myself very well what is real and what is fake. This was not my question.

Thank you for all the good advice, but no one has shown me a source where I can find such watches on sale.
:cheer:

I don't think anyone assumes anything because you are a woman. These models are commonly faked and the same advice would be given to anyone who came here looking for advice. Some of the pieces discussed here are subject to some significant discussion around their originality or otherwise because it isn't always obvious so if you are able to tell then you are better off than many of us.

In terms of where to find them - there isn't a regular market, as noted these pieces don't come up often so keep checking forums, eBay, etc.
