Hey guys.

I was wondering if its normal for Dealers to not allow customers to try on the watches they display. I was at an AD yesterday and they didnt let me try on any of the watches. They claimed it was 'company policy'. I mean, its not like I was in there in my yard work clothes....

Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks,

Did you walk in with a chainsaw under your arm by any chance....., or perhaps a shotgun......., or maybe you had a Highwayman's mask on? That's the only reason I can ever remotely imagine that an AD wouldn't let you try anything on!

Ben --

Never heard of a potential customer being treated in such a way. Every
Breitling dealer (or Rolex or Patek or Vacheron or IWC) I've ever visited
has always insisted I try on watches -- as many as I want, as long as
I didn't abuse the merchandise.

If I were you, I'd go to another AD, take care of business -- and
report the"store policy"of that other dealer. Breitling should be
made aware of it. Good luck. :)

It really is weird.

My AD doesn't have a separate room so their insurers insist that they only have one watch out of the display at a time, and ask for ID if an unknown customer walks in and asks to see one of the really high end watches - we're talking tourbillons here, but as everyone else has said, that's just wrong.

I don't think Breitling would approve.

I've never experienced this, and I have entered a lot of AD's in very casual clothing. You should change AD...

There really isnt more to the story. I mean I wasn't rolling in with a suit on, but I was looking fine, and my girl with me was cute-to-boot too (you know, she needs to be my fashion consultant and all...). I'm not a loud person, so its not like we were being obnoxious or anything.

The sales person stood there as my girl and I debated over size, face color, banding, etc. We asked the salesperson for an opinion and the responses were terse at best. so my girl and I talked more about the better watch and it felt like the salesperson was just humoring us by standing there.. as if it were some sort of privilege.
Strangest experience to be sure. I have only visited one other Breitling dealer and that was in Korea, and they let me try on 15+ watches there...

BTW, this was in the Stanford Mall, Palo Alto. For a second, I thought that maybe my age (being 31) would have played a part in it, but I am sure Stanford kids buy from there all of the time...

Anyhow, it sounds like its atypical.

I think I know that jeweler. They are not the friendliest. I went in there with my CA to have the bracelet sized and they brushed me off, telling me it would take at least two weeks. It was a present so I don't know where my wife had gotten it, but I needed it sized. I went to the other side of the mall to the non Breitling jeweler, where they have rolex and pam, they helped me right away and complimented me on the watch.

Go somewhere else that jeweler is a joke, IMO.

I would do as other have suggested, and let the store know that they lost a customer, and even let BUSA know if you really want to be spiteful. Screw them. Find another dealer.

:yeahthat

Poor and rude service wherever it occurs really gets my back up, so if I was you I'd take that all the way to BUSA. They tend to take a dim view of incidences that damage their brand image....

Heck, you may even get a free hat or something out of it!

when you get a new ling make sure you revisit this AD & if they change their tune when they see your wrist let them know how you feel & that you would never buy from them in the future. Hopefully not too many dealers like this one!

Unfortunately, dealers like that tend not to care about such things. If they did, they wouldn't act that way to begin with.

There is only one AD close to me, and they sell A LOT of brands (AP, Hublot, Panerai, VS, etc.), and a similar thing happened to me...

I bought my first few Breitlings off the internet, and I wanted to go to an AD to try a few prospects on. Now I was only 21 at the time, and did not have anything on my wrist because I was planning on walking out with something on my wrist. I had a pair of shorts on and a t-shirt with flip flops (my "non work" attire), and it took me 15 mins to find someone to help me. When the guy asked what I wanted and I told him I wanted to try a few Breitlings on and possibly buy one, he told me I cant try anything on but I can buy whatever I want (meanwhile the guy next to me had 4-5 different Breitlings out of the case and on his wrists). I immediately asked for a manager, and even she was rude, and thought I was just trying to "test drive" some watches. I became very annoyed and left. Soon as I walked out, I wanted to go back and buy a watch, so I went back in, told them this is the last time myself or anyone I know will be in this store unless I can try a few pieces on, and I bought my black SteelFish (at a nice discount for the non-professional employees). Since then, they have been SUPER nice to me every time I pass by or go in to browse. I still buy the majority of my watches online, but when I need immediate satisfaction, I will go and buy one there.

The point of the story, they should NEVER judge by the cover of the book, and I think I taught them that.

I would just call them, ask for the manager and explain your situation.

Well done.

Have the staff there learned nothing from the scene in 'Pretty Woman'
