Certainly not stereotypical, but I think that they have their niche in the range. I just get frustrated by sweeping and incorrect generalisations stated as facts by people who freely admit "I'm new to the brand"

Mark VI Compl. 19 is no exception, these bezels are screaming "look at me, I'm a poser and I've just made it to Forbes' top 100 , fancy a ride?" he-he.

Incorrect generalization? The whole B4B range is everything but subtle. Doesn't matter if I'm new to the brand or not. :nana: Just look at it! If you want subtle and understated, you pick something else. Nothing wrong with being a bit brash every now and then, but that is not the philosophy behind Bentley cars.

I really liked the Mark series but the one downfall was the platinum bezel and the inflated price tags that came with them.

About the Ferrari Pams, I was never a fan but I have to admit, the California Flyback was pretty nice.

This makes no sense to me - flashy, brash? A simple knurled bezel is too flashy and brash? I'll go out on a limb here, a very sturdy limb though, and suggest an Avenger, SA, Evo and a Chronomat 01 are no less, maybe more, flashy than some B4Bs and this from a guy who has worn a couple Avenger Skylands, 3 Evos, 3 B4B GTs and two Mark VI.

I'm not suggesting anyone must appreciate the B4B range, but I AM saying if you are looking for "subtle," 95% of Breitling ill-fits that bill.

I just got home from dinner wearing my Navi 01 LE on the bracelet and I'll be the first to say there was nothing subtle or understated about the appearance of that watch in the restaurant.

Agreed, I find an avenger/SA on bracelet more 'blingy'. Even my cosmonaute on a navi bracelet is very shiny! I quite like the C19 bezel. I prefer the dial of a navi 1461, but the bezel is nice.

On a strap it looks much more subtle.

[Starts to post reply questioning that percentage... glances down at coral, ie bright orange, SuperOcean on wrist... thinks better of it...]

Complications 19 is far more subtle than VicLeChic.

Seems this thread has gotten off topic, but Ferrari PAMs still suck

Amen. Yes I find some other Lings less understated than B4B. My comments about B4B not being subtle were strictly in comparison to the car maker image. I like a bit of bling as I said before, and sometimes even a bit more. It's not a bad thing. And yes, within the B4B range, some are less ostentatious than others. Depending on the mood or the occasion, I could probably wear any of them, not that I can afford them. But I would not be in a subtle, understated and discreet disposition. :cheer: :strummin: :nana: :superman:

Nothing personal here, we're talking about watches and it's all good fun  . If I was in a brash mood, I'd love to wear that Pam while driving an obnoxious 458 spider. Who wouldn't?

I agree, some of the Ferrari Pams are nice.

But whereas at a glance you can tell that a B4B is a Breitling and resembles many of Breitling-designed watches, the problem with Ferrari Pams is that they resemble NONE of the regular Panerai designs. That is what's inherently wrong with Ferrari Pams imho.

I bought the base model from an AD in 2011 at 60% off RRP. It had the silver Ferrari horse which was much more discreet and was not a bad looking piece. I thought that it may make a good casual weekend watch (not quite a beater) but it ended up not getting much wrist time.

I recently sold it on ebay fairly quickly out of warranty for the same as what I paid for it.

In my personal opinion and as a guy who does not presently own B4B, that's not a fair comparison. The "Breitling for Bentley" is discreet on the dial and not a walking, flashy suggestion the wearer has a Ferrari in the garage, while the Panerai Ferrari does just the opposite -

Someone who can afford the latter likely doesn't have a Ferrari and really doesn't want to walk around with a not so subtle indication that he does.

And as someone who DOES currently own two B4B's (and doesn't drive a Bentley), I heartly agree with Shark on this.

The "For Bentley" wording is very subtle (on a not overly subtle set of watches!), so to me it's neither here nor there whether they are perceived as having a Bentley association or not.

Bentley is undeniably more subtle and understated than Ferrari, I'll give you that. Not 100 % sure that the same philosophy applies when it comes to the B4B watch. A matter of taste I guess. Give me time, I'm new to the brand...

Is it? How is a 2.5 ton Cheshire-mobile more subtle than a Ferrari? At least, there is some non nouveau riche attributes to a Fezza, while most Bentleys are just Cote d'Azur yachts on wheels...
